Collection: Premium Australian Red Wines and White Wines

For many, in the 1990s, “Australian Wine” meant big wines with huge flavours: thumping Shiraz, oaky Chardonnay and some giant Cabernet Sauvignons.

These days, Australia is celebrated for its diverse and vibrant wine industry, distinguished by numerous wine-growing regions scattered across its vast landscapes. The industry has matured, wines from cooler climes have come to the fore and Australia now produces some wines of great subtlety and character.

Key regions include the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Yarra Valley, Margaret River and the Hunter Valley, each known for distinct wines that reflect Australia's rich viticultural heritage.

The Barossa Valley in South Australia is famous for its full-bodied Shiraz, capitalising on the warm climate to produce wines with intense flavours. With its Mediterranean climate, McLaren Vale is versatile, producing excellent Shiraz, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Coonawarra is celebrated for its Terra Rossa soil, which is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and leads to wines of great depth and elegance.

Victoria's Yarra Valley, benefiting from a cooler climate, is perfect for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, producing wines with finesse and subtlety. Western Australia's Margaret River excels in Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, its maritime climate yielding elegant wines with unique character. The Hunter Valley in New South Wales is renowned for its Semillon, alongside notable Shiraz and Chardonnay, offering crisp, refreshing wines with potential for ageing.

These regions exemplify Australia's capability to cultivate a wide range of grape varieties, contributing to its status as a world-class wine producer. Their distinct climates and soil types allow for the production of wines that reflect the unique terroir of each region and compete on the global stage, showcasing great viticultural diversity and excellence.
