“‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE BUBBLY”
THE HAY WINES CHRISTMAS WINE LIST (PART 1 OF 5)
Every year, around the end of November, we used to host our Annual Portfolio Tasting at the fascinating medieval Ledbury Market House.
A fantastic event, where more than 80 different products are put on tasting.
A fantastic event, where our customers have the opportunity to try the best wines for Christmas, selected by our own team of Sommeliers.
A fantastic event, where everyone has an interesting, fun and educational tasting evening.
This year, clearly, things are going to be different, and we will not be able to do all that.
For this reason, we have decided to put together a selection of our most recommended wines to have during the festive period.
Our festive wine selection will show you everything you might need for Christmas, from sumptuous Barolo, to fine Champagne.
Let us start with the first part of our journey… what are the unmissable and best sparkling wines for Christmas for the Hay Wines Team?
Best Sparkling Wines for Christmas: Champagnes
Le Brun de Neuville, Blanc de Blancs (was £29.99 – now £27.49)
The wine is soft, fresh, with a creamy mousse. Fine nose, with refreshing chalky minerality. Elegant and well-balanced, thanks to a long aging (5 years) on the lees.
Ayala, Brut Majeur (was £30.99 – now £26.99)
Pale gold in colour with a fine mousse, the wine is aromatic on the nose. On the palate, it is well balanced and shows great finesse and complexity.
Bollinger, Rosé (was £54.49 – now £45.99)
Aromatic nose of fresh cherries and brioche. On the palate fresh redcurrant, mingled with a darker note of mulberries. Delightful in stature and palate.
Best Sparkling Wines for Christmas: Artisan Proseccos
Fratelli Collavo, Organic Prosecco Extra Dry (was £14.99, now £13.99)
Fruity notes of green apple and peach. Floral notes of wisteria and acacia flowers. Pleasant acidity and well-structured. Delicately dry.
Bastia Rebuli, Zero Sugar Prosecco Superiore “Introverso” (£15.99)
Pleasant roundness and smooth finish typical of Prosecco, but without the need of any sugars. Very dry, yet well balanced. A very rare example of an actual sugar-free Prosecco.
Spagnol Col del Sas, Single Vineyard Prosecco Superiore “Rive di Solighetto” (£16.99)
Bouquet of mature and exotic fruit, slightly balsamic. Intense and balanced flavour. Minerals and flavour are highlighted.
Best Sparkling Wines for Christmas: Other Sparkling Wines
Oedoria, Crémant de Bourgougne (was £17.69, now £12.99)
Extremely fine bubbles. Fresh, aromatic quality on the nose, with lemony notes that will awaken your taste buds. Perfect as an aperitif.
Hay Wines, “1231” Vintage Brut (was £19.99 – now £16.99)
Special edition of our own-label sparkling wine to celebrate our 10-Year Anniversary (2009-2019). Good structure, with a beautiful creamy texture intensified by fine lingering bubbles. Dry finish with remarkable length. The perfect celebration wine.
Padroggi La Piotta, Organic “MilleBolle” Brut (was £11.99 – £10.99)
Fragrant bouquet, with pleasant notes of fruit. The mellow yet crisp taste is a result of its very well-balanced acidity.
Padroggi La Piotta, Organic “MISunderstanding” Pet Nat (was £11.99 – now £9.99)
Zesty and fresh frizzante wine (semi-sparkling), made with in-bottle fermentation and aging on the yeast lees (also known as “colfondo method” in Northern Italy). The wine is light-bodied, bone-dry and, without filtering or clarification, hazy in the glass.
