Tomatin 14YO Single Malt is soft, smooth and sweet, benefiting from its time spent in Tawny Port casks which previously held port for around 50 years. Zuccardi Valles Bonarda has a delicious bouquet of fresh dark cherries, crème de cassis and exuberant blackberry fruit notes. The palate is soft and juicy.
It is a beautiful orange wine with an amber colour that recalls the colour of the natural Malvasia grape in the sun. On the nose a touch of typical Malvasia aromatics and floral notes. On the palate it is full bodied and the tannins stand out; the finish is fresh and dry. From organic grapes, 60 days skin-contact maceration, no added sulphur dioxide, use of natural native yeast only and without fining or filtration. This wine spends 18 months on the yeasts before the actual disgorgement. Pas dosé & Millesimé. A very rare style of traditional method sparkling orange wine!
There is an immediate fragrance of star anise, vanilla, cloves and cinnamon, with some orange following along. On the palate fresh anise comes through prominently, developing into a complex array of sweet Caribbean spices with great balance between the spices and herbs; finishes with a slight ginger kick. Always an incredibly reliable blend, and one which accounts for almost half of the total red wine production of Qupé. The grapes are drawn from 12 different vineyard locations, covering a full spectrum from warm to cool, and each contributes something different to the final blend. From the warmer sites come rich, blackberry aromas and soft, supple texture in the mouth, while the cooler sites imbue the wine with a smoky, spicy, peppery character and fresh acidity. The whole is a harmonious, rewarding wine with juicy ripeness and an elegance and restraint which bears some of the hallmarks of the Northern Rhone.
