The wine is light bodied, bone-dry and, without filtering or clarification, as hazy as a blizzard in a snow globe. Straw yellow with greenish hues, it has the very delicate bubbles typical of Frizzante wines, and flowery and fruity scents accompanied by notes of citrus, yeast and baked bread. The lees at the bottom of the bottle offer the wine softness, mouthfeel and longevity and can be shaken into the Prosecco to give a buttery-spicy flavours.

La Stoppa Ageno is one of the benchmark Italian orange wines which are distinctive skin contact white wines. The grapes are macerated on the skins with native yeasts for thirty days and the wine is matured half in stainless steel and half in French barriques. It is orange/bronze colour with an amazing nose of tea, peaches, pears, sweet apricots and spice. On the palate there’s lovely rich ripe peach fruit and also a tannic structure but it is also juicy with honey and floral notes. This extremely complex wine has a dry finish.

This blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato is slightly purple/red in the glass showing aromas of wild cherries, plum and mulberry with just a touch of raspberry lift. There are hints of flowers, leather, smoke, spice and herbs with wafts of liquorice, earth and mandarin rind. In the mouth the initial attack of fruit is awash with wild cherry sheathed in tobacco leaf with supporting fruit flavours of dark plum and blackberry. A very pretty wine on the palate with violet-like floral flicks across the leather and spice backdrop with hints of roasted meats, citrus rind and scattered herbs. It’s delicious and lively with a nice, lingering finish set upon a plinth of ripe, fine grained gravelly tannins.

Deep, almost shy on the first nose, it reveals itself as the aromas come into focus: wild berries and candied fruit make way for roasted hazelnuts, baked bread, leather, eucalyptus and pomegranate, then the full robust palate shows plenty of temptingly chewy flesh. Soft yet penetrating its sweetness is backed by a supporting acidity that weaves elegantly amongst the fruit. A great introduction to this grape variety.

Red and purple flowers in the nose, kissed with cinnamon and nutmeg, leading you into a smouldering embrace of red currant, black raspberry, baking spice, sweet basil, white pepper, Tabasco-infused, chocolates and black cherries. There are violets and minerals in there as well and the ensemble is rich, yet elegant with a very long finish.

The aroma on this wine alone is worth the price of admission. Violets, roses, eucalyptus, and savory spice tones spring from the Reyneke Syrah to caress the nose. Smooth silky flavors follow in the mouth: this youthful Syrah’s mid palate is as pretty as it gets, as it’s loaded with all of the wine’s olfactory fireworks. To add to the hedonistic pleasure, ripe friendly tannins frame the fruit in the wine and provide an elegant, refreshing finish.

Made according to organic principals, in that no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides have been used in the vineyards. This is a blend of 40% Chenin Blanc, 35% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Chardonnay, and is unoaked. The Chenin provides the sunny yellow fruitiness the Sauvignon lends a fresh streak down the middle and the Chardonnay gives some gravitas but not too much to this delicious fresh white.

A rather restrained nose of fresh apricot and white stone fruit develops into youthful lime perfumes. On the palate, the Loimer Riesling has a crunchy acidity and lots of texture. Light-bodied, the wine is balanced and has a medium to long finish.

Complex aromas of dark fruit, a hint of meatiness and something more mineral/stony. Tannins pretty dry right now but there's juicy fruit to compensate. Strong sense of authenticity, if that does not sound too pretentious. Dry, dry, firm tannins, refined, lithe and long without overweening power. It would not be hard to finish the bottle.
