1701 Franciacorta Brut Nature

1701 Franciacorta Brut is a blend of Chardonnay 85% and Pinot Nero 15%. Its full palate is balanced by marked acidity. Mineral hints softened by fresh fruits and a lingering flavour of red apple.

On the top of Santa Giulia hill, beside the cluniac church of the same name, the glorious eighteenth century villa Palazzo Cazzago is home to the 1701 winery. The villa is part of ancient land belonging to the noble families of Bettoni and Cazzago. The land includes approximately 15 hectares of hillside in Cazzago San Martino, Franciacorta.

The name 1701 was chosen to recall the first vinification of their “brolo”, a 4-hectare vineyard framed by XI century walls.
1701 Franciacorta is a 10 ha organic certified winery now in conversion to Demeter. As members of Renaissance des Appellations they follow biodynamic farming methods – an approach which excludes any chemical intervention. It is ultimately a philosophy of life, about working closely with the vine, understanding and respecting its life cycle until the point when bottled it can fully express its vitality and character and above all the authenticity of its terroir. From Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards, they produce Franciacorta Brut, Satèn and Rosé and a Vintage Dosaggio Zero in exceptional years. The range also includes Sullerba, a semi sparkling Chardonnay ‘sur lie’.

Grapes are hand harvested and whole bunches are put into stainless vats except the Sullerba which is fermented 50% in amphora. Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle – the Sullerba is on the lees for 18 months, the Saten and the Brut spend 30 months before bottling. The Sullerba is unfiltered, whereas the other two undergo a very light filtration.

Bastia Vino Frizzante Colfondo Capo degli Onesti 2019

Straw yellow in colour with the delicate delicate perlage typical of Frizzante wines. This wine is a jump into the history of Prosecco, when locals used to call it in the local dialect "el vin col fondo” - "the wine with sediment". This is in fact a traditional Colfondo Frizzante wine, with in-bottle fermentation and storage on the yeast lees. Without filtering or clarification, this wine takes on unique and unmistakable features, and its complexity is overwhelming and fascinating. If shaken, it can be quite hazy and cloudy; the smell is characterised by yeasty notes, crust of bread and yellow ripe fruit; the taste is bone-dry and pleasantly sapid. Bastia winery is located in the heart of Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG appellation. With the "Capo degli Onesti" they wanted to celebrate Prosecco, its history and tradition; for this reason they decided to label this wine as "Vino Frizzante Bianco", just like their grandparents used to do years and years ago.

Bastia Valdobbiadene DOCG Superiore di Cartizze Prosecco Dry 2020

Pale straw yellow in colour with an fine and persistent perlage. The aromas are deep and delicate with flower notes like the rose, the field’s violet and fruity scents of apple and September peach. On the palate it is mellow, appealing and velvety, lightly aromatic. The important residual sugars in the wine (25 g/l) are perfectly balanced with the huge minerality that comes from the hill of Cartizze and its soil. This all gives the impression of a drier wine, but which very smooth and balanced on the palate. Cartizze is widely considered to be the "Grand Cru" of Prosecco.
