Description
Alamina Feteasca Regala
Alamina Feteasca Regala has a lovely citrus/pineapple character with a hint of white-pepper like spice. The lively fruit salad continues onto the palate which finishes with a very slight touch of sweetness and a slight grippiness, which is unusual in white wines, but a typical part of Feteasca Regala.
Alamina is a small project working with international, as well indigenous Romanian, varietals carefully selected from re-established vineyards. Utilising innovative winemaking techniques the aim is to preserve the freshness and fruit from each variety and show their wonderful nature such as the stunning local Feteasca Neagra, which is full of dark fruits and wonderful undertones of minerality.
In the vineyard- over 600 hectares of vines have been re-planted using the highest quality vine stock from France and Italy, and all the agricultural equipment used for farming the vineyards has also been replaced, with the most modern and high performance tractors and spraying machinery.
Winemaking team, Hartley Smithers from Australia, and Nora Iriate from Spain, together veterans of over 50 harvests in all the world’s wine producing regions, oversee the production of all the wines from grapes to bottle with a fanatical attention to detail. The philosophy is simple- to apply the absolute best production methods to every single wine,- to enhance and preserve the natural quality of the grapes- and provide a consistently high quality product every year for every level of wine they make.
Premium, indigenous varietals’s such as Feteasca Neagra from Recas’ best vineyards and Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio from carefully selected bunches of grapes.
As you walk through the rolling vineyards of the 700 hectare Cramele Recas estate, two things are inescapable. The first is the scale of the transformation that Englishman Philip Cox and his wife Elvira have managed to achieve, replanting 700 hectares of decrepit vineyards and replacing them with immaculately tended sites the equal of anywhere else in the world.
The second is that if you didn’t know where you were, you’d be convinced you were in Tuscany or any other “Classic” wine producing region.
To a certain extent you are as Romania has a history of winemaking stretching back millenia and it was this potential that has driven this dynamic duo to dedicate their lives to driving forward Romanian winemaking to it’s current state of rude health.
A 20 million euro investment in the vineyards and brand new winery, as well as the recruitment of seasoned new world winemakers, has enabled Cramele Recas to produce top quality reds and whites from a broad range of varietals at very competitive prices.
