Description
Aromo Viognier
Aromo Viognier is a full bodied white with a rich background of savoury notes, a very aromatic peach, apricot and mayblossom fruit character, but without any sweetness. No oak and fresh fruit makes this wine a real winner. The Aromo wines have a great charm and appeal and this is no exception.
In 1940, Mr. Victor Henríquez Solar, a well-established grape grower, acquired the rights of the winery, incorporating it to his vast vineyards, inherited from his ancestors. As time passed by, Mr. Victor’s sons, Arturo and Manuel, joined the winery and placed Viña El Aromo as one of the most respected and outstanding wineries in Chile.
The winery are now featuring well in competitions around the world and are regularly awarded gold and silver medals for their wines.
This estate bottled varietal range demonstrates the diversity of wine styles that can be produced in the ideal Chilean climate. The Aromo varietals show the best of these classic varieties with a twist of new world flair.
Maule Valley is the largest wine-producing region in Chile other than the Central Valley, of which it is a part. It has 75,000 acres (30,000ha) under vine, and has traditionally been associated with quantity rather than quality. But this is rapidly changing – the bulk-producing Pais vine is gradually being replaced with more international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere, and careful winemaking practices are being employed to make some world-class red wines from old-vine Carignan.
Maule Valley was one of the first areas in Chile to be planted to vine, and its viticultural history stretches back to the start of colonisation by the Spanish.
One of the more southern of Chile’s wine-growing areas, Maule is slightly cooler than its northerly cousins and has higher annual rainfall, most of which occurs during winter. The intensity of the sunlight is high (as it is in much of Chile) and Maule enjoys warm days followed by much colder nights, extending the growing season and leading to a balance of ripeness and acidity in the grapes.
