Benromach 10 YO

Our biggest seller!

Handcrafted from Speyside’s smallest working distillery.

Rich sherry influence with fruit and nut chocolate and delicate spice—cinnamon. Fresh green apples with a malty note. The palate of forest fruits, sherry, malt and a whiff of peat smoke. Aged in Sherry and Bourbon casks and finished in sweet Oloroso barrels.

The Benromach distillery in Forres was constructed in 1898 by the Benromach Distillery Company Ltd then was almost immediately closed and like many a Scottish distillery spent much of the next century opening and closing it’s doors with the rise and fall of the whisky market until bought by whisky merchants Gordon and Macphail in 1992.

At Benromach, they handcraft their whisky and make it slowly, the time-honoured way. It’s why their 10 Year Old is brimming with gorgeous classic pre-1960s Speyside character. And every drop is fine enough to be savoured as a single malt.

Before the mid 1960s, Speyside distilleries malted their own barley.

Hidden away in remote glens, they’d top up their fires with cuts of local peat when coal was running low.

These slices were enough to impart a touch of smoke in the region’s whisky. And, with the advent of new commercial maltings in the swinging ‘60s, this subtle Speyside smokiness was lost to the world. But only for a while.

Because Gordon and Macphail bought the mothballed Benromach Distillery and gave the world back this lost style of whisky. But it’s not just the peat that makes the difference. Numerous nuances go into creating the classic character of Benroamch.

They say:

“At BENROMACH, we handcraft our whisky and make it slowly, the time-honoured way. It’s why our 10 Year Old is brimming with gorgeous classic pre-1960s Speyside character. And every drop is fine enough to be savoured as a single malt.”

Glenfarclas 15 YO

An incredible dram from Glenfarclas, we can't say enough about it. It's a juicy, Christmas cake of a whisky, absolutely huge! This 15 year old matured in sherry wood, a superb malt which earned 95 points from Jim Murray. A lot of the whisky in this is clearly much older than 15 years, this is a really sherried dram and we love it.

Glenmorangie Original 10 YO 40%

Flaky oakiness with a complex toastiness to the barley suggesting the lightest hint of smoke. Amazingly long, drying from the initial sweetness but with flaked almonds amid the oakier notes. A great single malt: beautifully uncompromising from the first sniff to the last gulp.

Benriach Curiositas 10 Year Old 40%

Unusually for a speyside this is quite heavily peated in a style more common over 100 years ago. An explosion of aromatic peat reek, with fragrant hints of honey, fruit and mellow oak. On the palate an avalanche of peat, followed by an extravagant and complex mix of fruit, heather, nuts, oak wood and spices.

Lagavulin 16 YO 43%

One of the smokiest noses from Islay. It's big, very, very concentraded, and redolent of iondine, sweet spices, good, mature sherry and creamy vanilla. Stunning! Very thick and rich. A massive mouthful of malt and sherry with good fruity sweetness, but also a woonderful sweetness. Big, powerful peat and oak. Long, spicy finish, figs, dates, peat smoke, vanilla.
