Description

Bila Haut Banyuls – The Chapoutier family have been making wine in the Rhône Valley since 1808, but it is since 1990 when Michel Chapoutier took over that the wines really began to speak of their origin. Michel Chapoutier believes in allowing each parcel of land to make the best wine it can naturally and so much of his estate is farmed biodynamically.

The words that best describe Maison M. Chapoutier. An Estate that nurtures its vineyards with the greatest respect for natural balance and terroir since 1808. The family motto “Fac et Spera” – do and hope – says it all. Two words that sum up all the patience and daring that this art demands: patience in relation to nature which presides; daring for the winemaker, who observes, chooses and assists. The wine will be the faithful expression of this alchemy.

“Respect of the terroir” also means paying attention to each plot, listening to the world, the environment, anticipating the needs of the earth.
Respect for the fruit, the grape. Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the few Rhône valley winery to have a team specifically dedicated with “accompanying the wine-harvest”.
This is a new vinegrowing skill in order to provide guidance and support on farming methods for Maison M. Chapoutier when it is acting as a merchant for the grapes.
Respect for the consumer whether they are wine connoisseurs or not. Maison M. Chapoutier crafts its regional wines with the same dedication given to the most prestigious bottles, investing just as much faith.
The aim is always to convey the same love of wine, to give complete beginners a chance to discover its diversity.

Colour: from garnet red to mahogany according to the age.
Nose: powerful, balancing between black fruits and stewed fruits subtly brought by cocoa aromas.
Mouth: sumptuous balance between the solar strength of the wine and the fineness of its tannins.
It has a great persistency with sweetness which develops greedily.

The grapes for the Bila Haut Banyuls are destemmed and crushed. The maceration is long with an addition of alcohol to favour the extraction of aromas and tannins.

It can work as an aperitive. Blue cheese. Chocolate desserts, cakes, dried fruits dessert, caramel, coffee.

Mas Amiel Maury Vintage Rouge Quick View

Mas Amiel Maury Vintage Rouge 2016

Mas Amiel Maury Vintage Rouge is made in the same style as the rimage wines of Banyuls. From 100% Grenache Noir grown on the southfacing broken schists and marne soils and yields of 25 hl/ha, the grapes are subsequently sorted, destemmed and vinified in the normal way. The alcohol is added while the wine is still in the vat (mutage sur les grains), which slows down the final fermentation, allowing a longer period of maceration and thereby conferring greater richness. This Maury is ruby with violet tints and the nose eloquently expresses framboise, cherry and crème-de-cassis. It is smooth in the mouth, the red fruits reinforced by bitter chocolate and spice as well as fine tannins. 0.75l bottle. This fleshy, yet refreshing, fruity wine is a perfect match for red fruit or chocolate desserts. It is a seductive, pure Grenache varietal that also pairs well with sweet and sour dishes.

Fonseca Bin 27

Sweet and macerated fruit on the nose, initially with a little confectionery and violets, nevertheless very traditional with plenty of fruit, a moderate substance and a gently creamy midpalate. There is plenty of peppery grip, good acidity and a very firm structure. All in all though it has a nice style, with good substance to it, plenty of dark, tobacco-laced fruits and an attractive roasted-herb edge
