Description

Chateau du Pavillon Canon Fronsac

Chateau du Pavillon Canon Fronsac displays notes of cherries & plums with a hint of spice and vanillin, ripe tannins ensure the wine has a good backbone.

A perfect claret well balanced claret, 100% Merlot from the lesser known ‘right bank’ appellation of Canon-Fronsac.

Château du Pavillon is located in the Canon-Fronsac wine appellation, south of Bordeaux. In 1905, Victor Ponty purchased the winery, which sits in the middle of the vineyard.

The four hectares of south-facing vineyard are planted entirely with Merlot, the family’s favourite grape.

The warm, sunny conditions allow the grapes to mature to perfection, creating roundness and balance in flavour.

Sustainable and organic processes are used to grow and produce the wine, protecting the fertile Cannon-Fronsac soils from chemicals.

The family still live at the property today, with Michel Ponty producing the wines. He uses the same traditional techniques as his grandfather did 100 years ago.

Located in the appellation Canon-Fronsac , the Pavilion castle was founded in the late 18th century, making it one of the oldest areas of its appellation.

Background:-

The vineyards (10 hectares of land, vineyards 4) occupies the lower slopes of the Canon-Fronsac hills, with a beautiful southern exposure that ensures beautiful maturation. One variety is here, the merlot .

Michel Ponty, also owner of Grand Renouil castle in the same name, has chosen plowing old to aerate the soil and avoid the use of herbicides.

He advocates a more simple philosophy: “create wines that you’ll love to drink over a good meal.”  In the winery, stainless steel and oak are present for traditional vinification.

Prizes have been won in competition: the 2010 vintage was awarded Or from the Concours de Bordeaux Vins d’Aquitaine, and the 2010 vintage was awarded Silver from the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
