Chateau Fontareche Tradition Blanc

Chateau Fontareche Tradition Blanc is quite aromatic on the nose with subtle bready notes, the palate is weighty but fresh white peach and spice.

Chateau Fontareche Tradition Blanc: Just north of Lezignan-Corbieres and situated in the middle of a perfect square of 200ha of land is the fourteenth century Château Fontarèche one of the most historical estates in the Languedoc. It has been in the Mignard family since 1642
and is today owned by Jacques De Lamy. The estate is managed, however, by head winemaker Vincent Dubernet, whose
father preceded him as consultant winemaker.

The use of Vermentino in the blend of the Tradition Blanc results in a better wine, according to Vincent, but also means it contravenes the AOC regulations.

Respect for terroir is the philosophy which drives the work in the vineyards and it is therefore hardly surprising that the principals of lutte raisonnee and complete traceability have been applied to the estate for the past 15 years. In 2004, 11ha were given over to organic agriculture with a view eventually to converting the entire property.

Fontarèche, which takes its name from the Latin “melting turgid” (the fountain that springs), is one of the great historic estates of Languedoc wine.

In the inventories of the Archbishop of Narbonne, one detects the presence of vines in 1350 Fontarèche soon.

9 generations

In 1682, the castle of Fontarèche and its winery, becomes the property of the Mignard family whose descendants, the family Lamy, are the current owners of the domain.

An exceptional setting

The castle is located in Languedoc Fontarèche few kilometers from Lezignan-Corbieres. The area forms a perfect square of 200 ha around the buildings. Here flourish, since almost always, one might say, 160 ha of vignesclassées half in AOP Corbières and half in Wine Country.

Its location makes it a castle in which to live. The Canal du Midi, the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Cathar castles or the Mediterranean Sea are situated only a few kilometres. www.fontareche.fr

A unique collection of grape varieties …

The alternation of terroirs can work on a wide range of grape varieties. 17 are present on the property.

The traditionnels Carignan, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre red, black Picpoul for our rosé and Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Macabeo white.

But some soils of the property also enable us to successfully reveal the qualities large varieties such as Chardonnay, Viognier, Vermentino and white Colombard, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet, Caladoc red.

Jean-Claude Bachelet Puligny Montrachet Les Aubues 2017

This is really classy in 2010, the first year with the name of the lieu-dit on the label. A beautiful floral nose, dancing fruit, charming and balanced, it possesses an excellent racy acidity and is altogether a great success. From 50-year-old vines in Les Aubues, an enclave within better known Enceigneres, this is very attractive with quite a full nose and an excellent finish.

Peter Lehmann Margaret Semillon 2012

While bottle ageing in the Tanunda cellars, the wine has developed an attractive vibrant green/gold colour. The bouquet shows hints of lemon flower together with some waxy, honeyed development so typical of great, aged Semillon. The grapes were picked early in the season to retain more natural acidity and the palate is dry with a zesty finish.
