Description
Chateau Fortia Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc
Chateau Fortia Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is an intensely aromatic wine with a delicate floral attack complemented by notes of tropical fruit. Rich and textured on the palate, with concentrated exotic fruit flavours and candied citrus zest, this shows beautiful balance with a mineral note on the unctuous finish.
Château Fortia is a symbolic estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, both for its location and its roots that are closely linked to that of its appellation. In 1929 due to the efforts of Baron Pierre Leroy, Châteauneuf du Pape became the first appellation with a set of winemaking regulations. Today his descendants still continue the proud family tradition.
Vineyard
Château Fortia stretches over 36 hectares of which 32 are devoted to growing vines. The rest, made up of woodland, flower and vegetable gardens, which contribute to the balance of the ecosystem on the estate. They strive to limit the use of phytosanitary products and for many years they have been working the soils mechanically in order to avoid chemical weed killers.
The technique of sexual confusion of predators. Two-thirds of the property serves as a hunting reserve promoting the development of plant and wildlife. Since 2016 Château Fortia has been certified by Terra Vitis and since 2019 it holds the HVE certificate which officially recognises the environmental performance of winegrowers, including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategies, managed fertiliser use and water resource management.
Recent improvements in the vineyard have included the replanting of vines in the correct plots of land to suit the grape variety. The distinct terroir here consists of rounded quartzite stones from the Villafranchian period. These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, ensuring full grape maturity is reached.
Winemaking
The grapes were hand-harvested in the morning in order to retain freshness and manually sorted in the vineyard. The bunches were immediately pressed and the
Roussannes and Grenache Blanc juices were was cold settled for 24 hours.
Fermentation took place in stainless steel temperature controlled tanks, preserving the purity of fruit and aromas. The Clairette juice was cold settled for between five and seven days prior to fermentation, in order to extract exotic fruit aromas. After fermentation and racking the wine was left for six to seven months in stainless steel tanks and was lightly filtered prior to botting in the spring following the harvest.
