Chateau Lamothe Bouscat Pessac Leognan on the nose offers fresh citrus and floral notes. On the palate, it is well-rounded, with grapefruit and pineapple flavours. The oak is subtle and well-integrated, giving the wine body and balance.
The bunches of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are pressed and the juce is partially racked and chilled for 24 hours. Afterwards it is transferred to barrels, of which 30% are new oak where it is vinified on its fine lees. After fermentation, the wine is aged for eight months in oak with bâtonnage taking place once a month.
2015 was saw particularly healthy with uniform fruit at harvest. A generous flowering and hot, dry early summer was followed by a slightly cooler, damper August. The hot summer resulted in the harvest arriving earlier than 2014.
Château Lamothe Bouscaut is located in the village of Cadaujac and dates back to the 12th century. In 1999 it was acquired by its neighbour, Château Bouscaut, owned by Sophie Lurton and Laurent Cogombles. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vines grown on the deep gravelly soils are on average 35 years old. The vineyards are sustainably managed and pruning is carried out by hand by five vineyard workers on the 9 hectare estate.
