Chateau Los Boldos Cabernet Sauvignon

Chateau Los Boldos Cabernet Sauvignon is a signature of the Los Boldos Esate.

It is a balanced and fresh Cabernet Sauvignon, with notes of red currant and spice intermingled with herbal aromas.

Moreover the finish is long and elegant, with well integrated tannins.

Vineyard

Los Boldos has 170 hectares of vineyards which benefit from a Mediterranean climate.

The clear, bright skies during the summer and the wide diurnal temperature range are ideal for growing fruit. As a result the grapes maintain fresh acidity whilst ripening to perfection.

Furthermore the grapes for the Cabernet Sauvignon come from a vineyard in Requinoa, located in the appellation of Cachapoal.

Similarly the nearby Cachapoal river moderates temperatures, while stony alluvial soils in the vineyard ensure low yields.

Winemaking

Firstly fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks over a period of eight days at a controlled temperature of 26°C.

No oak was used in order to preserve the intense varietal flavours of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Then after malolactic fermentation it was kept in tank for four months prior to bottling.

Producer

Château Los Boldos was founded in 1991 and is situated 100km south of Santiago in the foothills of the Cachapoal Andes.

Now working with a portion of old vines originally planted in 1948, the focus from the onset has been on the production of premium wines.

Renowned soil scientist and viticultural consultant Pedro Parra (of Clos des Fous - https://haywines.co.uk/product/clos-des-fous-cauquenina/ ) was brought in to assess the plots and match the right variety to the different soils around the estate.

The type of rootstock, planting density, orientation and the frequency of irrigation were all within Pedro’s remit.

Now the results are being seen in the wines. Especially since Victor Arce, previously of Perez Cruz, joined as winemaker in 2015.
