Description
Chateau Ricaud Quartet
Chateau Ricaud Quartet is a rich Bordeaux blend, with ripe tannins and rich red berry fruit flavours.
“South of Bordeaux, near Cadillac, the Château de Ricaud offers an exceptional diversity of soils. Seduced by this qualitative potential and the architectural beauty of the Château, Alain Thiénot acquired the property in 1980.
In 2007, he decides to rely on the expertise of our Dourthe teams. And a restructuring plan is put in place with the ambition of making the domain the benchmark in Loupiac and creating a Côtes de Bordeaux worthy of the greatest. ” Patrick Jestin
Owned by the Thiénot family for almost four decades, the Château de Ricaud is a magnificent castle. In addition it is set in the neo-Gothic style surrounded by a park with 300-year-old trees.
Primarily its origins date back to the 15th century. This is when Gaston de Foix ennobled the “Ricault” house then held by the knight Bernard de Lamensans.
The original castle, destroyed by the Dukes of Épernon in 1650, then rebuilt by François de Fleurier in 1674, did not take its current form until 1865. It was reworked by the architect Alphonse Blaquière in a neo-Gothic style inspired by renovations carried out by Viollet-Le-Duc.
Furthermore from 1882 to 1910, William Wells set up a vineyard of nearly 30 hectares in Ricaud that his son Maurice would endeavor to develop. Moreover the Loupiac wines produced there obtained from 1897 numerous medals in London, Brussels and Paris.
