For over 3 centuries, Le Clos de Cordeliers has been among the most celebrated vineyards in the Saumur wine region.
References to the cultivation of vines at the estate date back to the early 17th century. But it was the Cordeliers de Saumur, the Fransciscan monks that acquired the estate in 1696, who gave the place its name and fame.
Over the ensuing century, they established the “clos” (the walls-surrounded vineyard) and produced wine that became coveted throughout the region. Clos-des-Cordeliers
Located in Champigny, the property was bought in 1932 by the Ratron family for 4 generations expanded,
modernized and maintained the reputation of the area by producing Saumur-Champigny.
This wine tasting reveals all the finesse of Cabernet Franc, with a bright ruby and a nose with aromas of red fruits and flowers. The Cuvée Tradition presents fine tannins velvety and end fresh and balanced mouth.
|XVII and XVIII: The first references to the cultivation of vine to the estate date back to 1630. Then it was the Cordeliers of Saumur, Franciscan monks who cultivated the vine and there are produced their wine.
They gave the name “Clos des Cordeliers” to this country house and its vineyards (enclosed within small walls) they acquired in 1696 and they possessed it until the Revolution.
XIX: Purchased the State by the family of Madame AMOUROUX (owner of Bordeaux vineyards) when all the property of religious communities were alienated, the Clos des Cordeliers was cited among the most renowned vintages for its red wine.
Indeed, he was one of the few areas mentioned in the Loire’s first “World Wine Classification” (A. Julien, 1830).
XX and XXI: The property was bought in 1932 by the Ratron family for 4 generations expanded, modernized the vineyards and perpetuated the reputation of producing area of Saumur-Champigny, Protected Designation of Origin of the Loire Valley.
Sébastien succeeded the Brothers Ratron Bernard (his dad) and Michel (his uncle). Attendance and love of the craft allow Sébastien Ratron perpetuate this reputation.
