Description

Clos Lapeyre Jurancon Sec achieves an aromatic intensity by picking late and using the lees to obtain colour and extract. This delightful number dances a brisk citric tango on the palate.  It is a well balanced wine, long in flavour, a beautiful expression of Gros Manseng with the combination of a fresh citrus nose and a mineral finish. Matching perfectly with seafood, grilled fish, but also pork, goat cheese.

Clos Lapeyre Jurancon Sec

Clos Lapeyre Jurancon Sec achieves an aromatic intensity by picking late and using the lees to obtain colour and extract.

This delightful number dances a brisk citric tango on the palate. It is a well balanced wine, long in flavour, a beautiful expression of Gros Manseng with the combination of a fresh citrus nose and a mineral finish.

The vines used for Clos Lapeyre Jurancon Sec face southwards towards the hound's-tooth Pic du Midi d'Ossau with maximum exposure to sunlight yet simultaneously protected from strong winds.

The 12 ha vineyard has been exhaustively mapped and analysed for soil composition to obtain a profile of the microbial activity in the vineyard and as a result divided into twelve segments, each of which are treated according to how the soil, and, by definition, the vine needs to be nourished.

Jean-Bernard Larrieu is one of the poets of Jurançon, and the Clos Lapeyre Jurancon Sec his creation.

For three generations, the Larrieu family has been growing vines on an area of their estate traditionally used for mixed farming, they made their first vintage in 1985.

Jean-Bernard Larrieu, his father, Marcel, and the rest of the team at Clos Lapeyre tend to the vines on the steep hillsides facing the Pyrenees.

The vineyards are planted on slopes at an altitude of between 250 and 350m. Because of the steep incline, some 9 ha (19 acres) of the estate are planted on terraces.

"Our wish today is to make highly expressive wines which reveal our terroir and express a sense of place, on converting to organic methods of agriculture, we had to rethink the way we grow vines at Clos Lapeyre: no more weedkiller, the use only of organic manures, a return to ploughing the land and to using copper and sulphur compounds and plants extracts for protective spraying. We also selectively harvest and ferment different plots separately."
