Cousino Macul Isidora Riesling

Cousino Macul Isidora Riesling is yellow in colour with golden rims. It´s high aromatic intensity charmes the nose with citric notes, granny smith green apple, jasmine and fresh pinneapple. In mouth, it is dry with a medium to high acidity, a bit sparkly and fruity with a long lasting ending.

This wine is named after one of Cousiño Macul founder’s, Mrs. Isidora Goyenechea, Luis Cousiño’s widow. Riesling cuttings were brought from Germany and have managed to develop in the Maipo Valley with a distinctive personality.

Founded in 1856, Cousiño Macul is the only winery amongst those established during the nineteenth century that continues in the hands of the founding family, who controls 100% ownership of the company. They are a company with tradition, character and identity. For years they have been concerned about being leaders in wine production, always bearing in mind their values, their history and the excellence of their wines. “Our mission is to produce world-class wines that are unmistakably Chilean, with character that expresses the unique taste of the Maipo Valley”, Carlos Cousiño, Chairman of Cousiño Macul.

Cousiño Macul Winery is managed today by the sixth generation of the Cousiño family, the three brothers Arturo, Emilio and Carlos Cousiño. They are in charge of continuing the clan’s most traditional business. Like their predecessors, they have put their own stamp on history by bringing quality to the limit, thus ensuring Cousiño Macul’s position as a leading family business. Carlos, the eldest of the three, is the current president of the Cousiño Macul Winery.

All the vineyards are planted on their own root systems. The wines produced by Cousiño Macul are made from 9 varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling. Over 60% of their production is red wine. Vines for new plantings come from missal selections carried out in their own nurseries, for a period of 10 years. This selection has allowed the preservation of a unique genetic material of great value that was originally brought to Chile by Luis Cousiño in 1860. Including varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the Paullac region in Haunt Medoc, Chardonnay from Burgundy and Sauvignon Vert and Semillon from Martillac in Graves.

To make world-class wine, grapes of the highest quality are required. With this in mind, the team in charge of managing their vineyard has to pay utmost attention to every detail. Opportunity, knowledge and experience are key: vineyard management requires a series of technical procedures that must be performed at specific times throughout the year. Their agricultural practices are consistent with the concept of “sustainable agriculture” or “minimal intervention management”, which allows them to reduce and, in many instances, completely eliminate the use of any chemicals.
