Evidence of the Croft port house dates back to 1588. The company took its present name in 1736 when joined by John Croft, a member of an old and distinguished family of Yorkshire wine merchants. The Croft family played a prominent and influential role in the Port trade and elevated the house to the place of distinction it occupies today. This reputation is largely thanks to their ownership of one of the finest estates of the Douro Valley, Quinta da Roeda.
