Description

Cu Bocan Single Malt

Lightly peated single malt matured in a compelling combination of Virgin Oak, Bourbon and Sherry casks. Released for the first time in October 2013.

On the nose, you are initially hit with coconuts and cream with some botanic notes, parsley and coriander.  The smoke emerges after a minute, but only drifting past the nose.  A mesmeric mix of lime, grapefruit and tangerines with rich almond and aniseed.

The taste is initially feather light, followed by a honeyed smoke; toasted almonds.  The rich spice of cloves, cinnamon and star anise create an enigmatic elegance.  Imagine a café latte with fresh chocolate shavings. The finish is light with a hint of sweet smoke.

“Why ‘Cù Bòcan’?” we hear you ask…

Cù Bòcan has stalked residents of the remote Highland village of Tomatin for centuries, his legend embellished by the hellhound’s increasingly fractious behaviour.

Sightings are rare, once in a generation, always terrifying. A distillery worker, out walking late, was once relentlessly pursued by an imposing black beast, steam spiralling from flared nostrils, teeth bared.

Compelled beyond all natural reason to feel the hound’s dense fur he stopped and reached out, hand trembling, only to see the ghostly spectre – Cù Bòcan – dissolve before his eyes leaving nothing but a vacuum of deathly silence and an inky blue cloud of smoke, soon spirited away across the peat moorland…

The legend of  Cù Bòcan lives on in this lightly peated single malt Scotch Whisky from Tomatin Distillery. What are you waiting for?

Benriach Curiositas 10 Year Old 40%

Unusually for a speyside this is quite heavily peated in a style more common over 100 years ago. An explosion of aromatic peat reek, with fragrant hints of honey, fruit and mellow oak. On the palate an avalanche of peat, followed by an extravagant and complex mix of fruit, heather, nuts, oak wood and spices.

Clynelish 14 YO

You can almost taste the coastal flora in Clynelish Single Malt Scotch Whisky, with its crisp, medium- bodied, mustard-fresh style. Although you won’t find Islay’s powerful smokiness here, there is just a trace of it lingering. It’s said Clynelish whisky is closer to an Island style than other mainland malts, with a complex and fragrant nose and an agreeable long finish that leaves a lingering fresh-fruity flavour. Not a heavyweight, it is yet deliciously drinkable, and perfect as an aperitif.

Dalmore 18 YO 43%

Dalmore's stunning 18 year old Highland malt is as rich, fruity and spicy as you could ever want from a Dalmore. Kudos to Dalmore for creating another veritable chocolate orange of a whisky - a surefire hit, and great for the colder months. It is aged for 14 years in American oak, followed by three years in Matusalem sherry butts, before a final year in sherry butts. One for the sherry monsters amoungst you.
