Description

Cullen Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Cullen Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon has a bouquet that combines very intense lifted aromatic lime, guava and green pineapple aromas.

Cullen Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is rich and flavoursome, the palate is a blend of paw paw, lime and nougat with a touch of spice. The good acid ensures that the finish is delightfully crisp. Delicious!

“As usual, this blend contains a greater volume of Sauvignon Blanc than Semillon, which reflects the outstanding qualities of the fruit produced by the former variety on the Cullen Vineyard, while recognising that it can still be enhanced by the complimentary characteristics of the latter variety.
The fruit was picked at optimal ripeness, which was represented by Baume’s of only 9.9° – 12.8°. Complexity and completeness have been enhanced through maturing a substantial component of the wine in new oak. 1768 dozens produced.”

Founded in 1966 by Di and Kevin Cullen, the winemaking is now managed by their daughter Vanya.

Terroir:-

Passion and a strong sense of responsibility to the land define Vanya’s organic and biodynamic approach to viticulture, whilst pioneering environmental initiatives led to Cullen becoming Australia’s first carbon neutral winery in 2007.

Vanya’s philosophy is to make wines that are the best expression of the vineyard, with the maritime climate, rocky soils, dry farming and biodynamic practices combining to create the individual and diverse wine styles that characterise Cullen.

This approach is totally reflected in the Cullen Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon. Wines are now made exclusively from the Cullen Estate Vineyard (planted 1971-1976) and the Mangan Vineyard (planted 1995-1997).

The Mangan vineyard, which is owned and managed by Rick Cullen, is dry farmed and maintained using a biodynamic approach to viticulture.

Soils are old, granite and gravely sandy loam, overlaying lateric subsoils. Fruit was picked over three weeks at 10 – 13.8° Baumes, when it had reached the perfect level of freshness, richness and complexity. (cullenwines.com.au)

Domaine des Brosses Sancerre 2019

The Girard family have 6 different parcels of Sancerre vineyards. Their hillside vineyards are located on classic clay and chalk soils, giving the grippy, mineral style expected of true Sancerre. Domaine des Brosses has used a machine harvester to collect the grapes since 1989. This is so that the Sauvignon Blanc is brought to the winery in the coolness of night-time, thus retaining the classic citrus and gooseberry aromas and flavours of Sancerre. Pale yellow in colour. The nose is fresh and full of hay, citrus and mineral notes. The palate is medium in body with crisp lemon acidity and an appealing creamy complexity alongside the ripe peach, elderflower and mineral flavours which last well on the long finish.

This is really classy in 2010, the first year with the name of the lieu-dit on the label. A beautiful floral nose, dancing fruit, charming and balanced, it possesses an excellent racy acidity and is altogether a great success. From 50-year-old vines in Les Aubues, an enclave within better known Enceigneres, this is very attractive with quite a full nose and an excellent finish.
