Curatolo Arini Marsala Superiore Dolce

Curatolo Arini Marsala Superiore Dolce is dark amber in colour, with aromas of dried figs, sultanas and caramel.

This wine is round and soft on the palate with fresh notes of dried fruit, nuts and honeysuckle with a pleasant, sweet and clean finish.

Established in 1875 by Vito Curatolo Arini, the winery is now run by the fifth generation of Curatolos, making it the oldest family-owned Marsala producing business.

The family are launching a new range of wines under the Curatolo Arini label, showcasing the best of what they think native Sicilian varieties can offer.

Still made in the traditional way, the Marsalas are the real deal and make a great alternative to Sherry.

The stunning art deco labels designed by Ernesto Basile, a famous Palermo architect in the latter part of the 19th Century, are still used today.

The Marsala Superiore is made in the traditional manner, with the base wines made from Grillo, Inzolia and Catarratto.

These are subsequently fortified with white grape spirit and aged for two years in cask.

The result is a rich yet dry, aromatic and heady wine like the Curatolo Arini Marsala Superiore Dolce 75cl.

Temperature controlled slow fermentation at 20-25° C. The base wine is 12% in alcohol and has a minimum residual sugar level of 20 grams per litre.

Alcohol, mistella (fresh grape must with added alcohol) and mosto cotto (concentrated fresh grape must which is traditionally “cooked” until it reduces to a third of its initial volume) are then added to the base wine, giving it a final alcohol content of 17%, the desired sugar level and the traditional flavour.

The wine is then aged for over five years (minimum two years by law) on site in 150 hectolitre Slovenian oak casks.

Fonseca Bin 27

Sweet and macerated fruit on the nose, initially with a little confectionery and violets, nevertheless very traditional with plenty of fruit, a moderate substance and a gently creamy midpalate. There is plenty of peppery grip, good acidity and a very firm structure. All in all though it has a nice style, with good substance to it, plenty of dark, tobacco-laced fruits and an attractive roasted-herb edge

Mas Amiel Maury Vintage Rouge 2019

Mas Amiel Maury Vintage Rouge is made in the same style as the rimage wines of Banyuls. From 100% Grenache Noir grown on the southfacing broken schists and marne soils and yields of 25 hl/ha, the grapes are subsequently sorted, destemmed and vinified in the normal way. The alcohol is added while the wine is still in the vat (mutage sur les grains), which slows down the final fermentation, allowing a longer period of maceration and thereby conferring greater richness. This Maury is ruby with violet tints and the nose eloquently expresses framboise, cherry and crème-de-cassis. It is smooth in the mouth, the red fruits reinforced by bitter chocolate and spice as well as fine tannins. 0.75l bottle. This fleshy, yet refreshing, fruity wine is a perfect match for red fruit or chocolate desserts. It is a seductive, pure Grenache varietal that also pairs well with sweet and sour dishes.
