Domaine de Villargeau Coteaux du Giennois

Domaine de Villargeau Coteaux du Giennois is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, this wine shows great gooseberry fruit on the nose which leads to a well balanced palate of lime and nettles with refreshing acidity.

The Coteaux de Giennois is a small wine growing region that can be found just north of both Sancerre and Pouilly Fume. Whilst this area is quite unknown in wine circles it is rapidly catching up with its neighbours. This wine is certainly of a similar quality and style, but currently demands lower prices and therefore offers excellent value for money.

Producer

Domaine Villargeau is the benchmark producer of the Coteaux de Giennois. They have been leading the way within their region for just over 20 years. They producer Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. With over 85% of their production currently being exported to over 10 countries worldwide it seems everyone wants these wines. The region is found just to the north of both Sancerre and Pouilly Fume and is fast becoming a preferred wine to these two other more well-known communes. If you have yet to try wines from the Giennois then you have not tried some of the best wines from the Central Loire Valley.

Jean-Claude Bachelet Puligny Montrachet Les Aubues 2017

This is really classy in 2010, the first year with the name of the lieu-dit on the label. A beautiful floral nose, dancing fruit, charming and balanced, it possesses an excellent racy acidity and is altogether a great success. From 50-year-old vines in Les Aubues, an enclave within better known Enceigneres, this is very attractive with quite a full nose and an excellent finish.

Domaine Pelle Menetou Salon Morogues 2018

This wine has a subtle, pure nose with aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits. The taste is racy and crystalline, clear with a citrus fruit taste initially followed by a saline and mineral finish. Nothing overly exuberant: just clarity and precision.

Domaine des Brosses Sancerre 2019

The Girard family have 6 different parcels of Sancerre vineyards. Their hillside vineyards are located on classic clay and chalk soils, giving the grippy, mineral style expected of true Sancerre. Domaine des Brosses has used a machine harvester to collect the grapes since 1989. This is so that the Sauvignon Blanc is brought to the winery in the coolness of night-time, thus retaining the classic citrus and gooseberry aromas and flavours of Sancerre. Pale yellow in colour. The nose is fresh and full of hay, citrus and mineral notes. The palate is medium in body with crisp lemon acidity and an appealing creamy complexity alongside the ripe peach, elderflower and mineral flavours which last well on the long finish.

Fresh, intensely floral, yet very fruity - apple blossom and lemon aromas give way to peach, orange and all manner of tropical fruit nuances, leading to an intense grapiness on the palate. This really is packed with flavour, combining a touch of richness with gorgeous acidity and a subtle herbiness. A beautifully made wine of real elegance - and brilliant value for money.

Peter Lehmann Margaret Semillon 2012

While bottle ageing in the Tanunda cellars, the wine has developed an attractive vibrant green/gold colour. The bouquet shows hints of lemon flower together with some waxy, honeyed development so typical of great, aged Semillon. The grapes were picked early in the season to retain more natural acidity and the palate is dry with a zesty finish.

Aromo Viognier 2018

Full bodied white with a rich background of savoury notes, a very aromatic peach and mayblossom fruit character, but without any sweetness. No oak and fresh fruit makes this wine a real winner. The Aromo wines have a great charm and appeal and this is no exception.
