Domaine Klur Cremant D Alsace Sans Souffre

Domaine Klur Cremant D Alsace Sans Souffre is a traditional Crémant without the addition of Sulphur! An astonishingly fruity nose of apple with the hints of brioche, with green apple, citrus fruits on the palate to complement the fine bouquet and long dry and soft finish.

This blend of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois comes from vines planted in sandy soils in the valley below Katzenthal.

The family run wine estate Klur has existed since 1999 in its present form, but whose tradition of winegrowing and production leads back to the 17th century. Since 1999 they have been following the principles of biological cultivation, ecology and biodynamic practices and are certified organic.

Nestled in a small valley in the middle of Alsace, the vineyards are protected from the strong westerly winds. Vines average 50 years of age, with deep roots in the soil. These vines produce well structured, complex and full bodied wines. Due to the steepness of the vineyards the harvest is carried out manually, which means pickers can be incredible selective in choosing the healthiest and ripest fruit.

Ecologically, the Klurs do whatever they can to work in harmony with their natural surroundings and reduce their impact on the environment. Natural limestone walls and coats, untreated wooden frames and planks, cork isolation, materials like hemp, wood fibre or clay are utilised where possible. Roof vegetation, natural air supply, ventilation shafts were employed when upgrading the buildings on the estate. They prohibit the use of non-organic fertiliser, instead use only natural composts. To top things off, fruit trees are planted to attract and offer shelter to species that contribute to the balance of the vineyard and vines.

To this day the Klurs remain true to the principle the winery was founded on in the 17th century: producing the best wines that the soil can generate.
