Description

Domaine Laroche Chablis Premier Cru Les Vaudevey

Domaine Laroche Chablis Premier Cru Les Vaudevey is bright gold in colour with an elegant nose which abounds with citrus aromas and mineral overtones.

Domaine Laroche Chablis Premier Cru Les Vaudevey is racy in style with fine white fruit flavours balanced by zesty freshness. A long, lingering mineral finish.

Vaudevey is a 35 hectare Premier Cru (Domaine Laroche own 9.96 hectares) which sits to the west of the town of Chablis.

The steep slopes rest on classic Kimmeridgean soil; sun exposure on the east/south facing vines, occurs in the morning and early afternoon, which gives good ripeness and an elegance not always found in the more powerful of the Premier Crus.

Domaine Laroche Chablis Premier Cru Les Vaudevey epitomises Chablis. The quality of their wines is impeccable, with all wines carrying the Chablis hallmark of crystalline purity and steely minerality.

Laroche were the first Burgundian producer to move to screw caps in 2002 and now all their wines, from Petit Chablis through to Grand Cru, are now closed under stelvin.

The domaine has been built up over the past 160 years, but a dynamism that is unusual in such a venerable producer permeates everything Laroche does.

Domaine Laroche’s ownership of vineyards is remarkable, and sets them apart from their main competitors.

Chablis is a fragmented region, but Domaine Laroche owns 100 hectares of vines, including an impressive 30 hectares of Premier Crus and six hectares of Grand Crus.

Domaine Laroche employs more than 30 people all year round, each responsible for a given plot over the 90 hectares of vineyards.

The approach of viticulture is based on observation. The core aim is to get small concentrated bunches with berries able to reveal the terroir in the glass.

No need to say that there is no useful general rule: each plot has its own character, sometimes in contrast with the next one. Attention to detail for all these nuances make the difference in the wines.

Laroche can adapt the viticultural practice to each growth or plot characteristic that can give wine structure, finesse and minerality.

All premier and grand crus are harvested by hand and sorted in the winery, in order to keep the potential of the grapes at its best and make terroir expression possible.

The ageing of premiers and grands crus takes place in the cellars of the Obédiencerie.

Domaine des Ballandors Quincy Quick View

Domaine des Ballandors Quincy 2018

This is the village adjacent to Sancerre and Pouilly Fume where wines of similar style are made but because of Quincy’s ‘lesser’ name at much reduced cost. This wine is a testament to that; the flavours and aromas achieved in this wine are equivalent to any top flight Sancerre, with ‘grippy’ edgy grapefruit notes and steely crisp fruit. When Anton Beukes, winemaker at the Môreson Winery in South Africa, tasted this wine at supper, he said; ‘This is the wine I would love to make’ - Anton makes some very serious wines, so what an accolade! Winner of Best French White Wine at ‘France under one roof’ London 2005.

Jean-Claude Bachelet Puligny Montrachet Les Aubues 2017

This is really classy in 2010, the first year with the name of the lieu-dit on the label. A beautiful floral nose, dancing fruit, charming and balanced, it possesses an excellent racy acidity and is altogether a great success. From 50-year-old vines in Les Aubues, an enclave within better known Enceigneres, this is very attractive with quite a full nose and an excellent finish.
