Description
Dowie Doole Hooley Dooley
Dowie Doole Hooley Dooley is rich, deep crimson with a crimson hue.
Dowie Doole Hooley Dooley has a beautiful Cabernet bouquet of blackcurrant and mint with dark berried, spicy Shiraz and soft red fruits from the Merlot.
The Dowie Doole Hooley Dooley palate is soft and juicy exhibiting flavours blackcurrant, blackberry and plum with a touch of nutmeg spice – the tannins are fine, long and soft.
The Dowie Doole boys established their own McLaren Vale winery in the mid-nineties, having grown increasingly frustrated with watching their grapes being trucked off to other wineries.
Their main aim has been to produce classic McLaren Vale wines that are more elegant and refined in style than mainstream Australian wines.
Awards:-
This wine has won many prizes: the 2009 vintage was awarded Gold from the Mundus Vini; the 2008 vintage was awarded Gold from the Mundus Vini; and the 2009 vintage was awarded Silver from the International Wine Challenge.
Based on critic scores this is among the top 10 most highly rated red wines from the region.
Cabernet – Merlot – Syrah blends incorporate some of the world’s most popular red wine grape varieties, each of which are grown in almost every wine-producing country on earth.
The Cabernet grapes (both Cabernet Sauvignon and, to a lesser extent, Cabernet Franc) are both classic blending partners for Merlot, whether individually or together.
They are in fact the core ingredients of the traditional Bordeaux Blend. Less traditional, but increasingly common, particularly in the New World, is to add a component of Syrah.
The McLaren Vale wine region, in the north-west of Fleurieu Peninsula, is located approximately 22 miles (35km) south of Adelaide.
It is by far the most important wine-producing area in the Fleurieu zone and is also regarded very highly throughout Australia and the world.
The region acquired its GI (Geographical Indication) status in 1997, but wine-growing traditions here are amongst the oldest in the country.
Pioneers such as Thomas Hardy and John Reynella, both iconic names in the Australian wine industry, can be credited with this achievement, having realized the region’s potential in the early 19th century when the first vines were planted.
McLaren Vale has come a long way since then and is home to some of Australia’s most highly regarded wines.
