Falconhead Sauvignon Blanc

Falconhead Sauvignon Blanc has beautiful balance, that hint of mango and passion fruit, tamed by a degree minerality and sophistication that’s rarely found from this region. Award Winner

This wine display a complex aroma of tropical fruits, passion fruit, feijoa and a touch of lime. The palate shows sweet pure fruit flavours balanced by a limey acidity and mineral finish.

Sauvignon Blanc is the most famous varietal of New Zealand, and is typically a very crisp aromatic wine with notes of grapefruit, tropical fruit and cut grass.

The white wines of New Zealand tend to be slightly sweeter than those from Bordeaux and the Loire Valley, and are hugely influenced by the growing conditions of the country

Winemaking:

The fruit for Falconhead Sauvignon Blanc comes from both our Marlborough vineyards located in the Awatere and Wairau valleys of the Marlborough district. The Awatere is cooler than the Wairau and the fruit reflects this, with the Awatere fruit being tighter and more restrained while the Wairau fruit is more upfront and tropical.

The fruit from both was pressed off skins soon after harvest in Marlborough, with the juice then being transported to Katikati for fermentation. Select yeasts are used, which combined contribute to the aromatic complexity of the wine.
For Falconhead Sauvignon Blanc, this wine the best parcels of fruit have been selected, which best represent the quality of the season and the vineyards.

Established in 1978 by kiwifruit farmer Morton Brown, the original Morton vineyard in Katikati produced its first vintage in 1983. With expansion since Morton Estate now has vineyards in Hawkes Bay on the east coast of the North Island, and Marlborough on the northern tip of the South Island.

Domaine des Ballandors Quincy 2019

This is the village adjacent to Sancerre and Pouilly Fume where wines of similar style are made but because of Quincy’s ‘lesser’ name at much reduced cost. This wine is a testament to that; the flavours and aromas achieved in this wine are equivalent to any top flight Sancerre, with ‘grippy’ edgy grapefruit notes and steely crisp fruit. When Anton Beukes, winemaker at the Môreson Winery in South Africa, tasted this wine at supper, he said; ‘This is the wine I would love to make’ - Anton makes some very serious wines, so what an accolade! Winner of Best French White Wine at ‘France under one roof’ London 2005.
