Isle of Jura 10 YO
Light golden, yellow in colour, the nose is light clean and fresh, with a hint sea salt, almonds, and spice notes. On the palate it has light peaty notes, with fruit and spicy overtones with a sweet, peaty finish.
The distillery was first built overlooking the Sound of Jura in 1810. The distillery draws its water from Loch a’Bhaile-Mhargaidh’ (the market loch), a thousand feet (300m) above Craighouse, the island’s only village. The distillery’s machinery and buildings were owned by different individuals and a dispute between the two led to its closure for over fifty years in 1913. It was effectively redesigned and rebuilt before its reopening in the 1960s.
The Isle of Jura distillery is located so close to the island of Islay that they often participate in the annual ‘Feis Ile’ whisky festival of the Islay distilleries. But even though the Isle of Jura distillery is located just a ferry ride away from ‘the parish of peat’, its house style is completely different. They produced a few peated batches, but most of the regular expressions show a trademark oily profile – not unlike cod liver oil though no in terms of flavour of course.

Nikka From The Barrel is full-bodied and punchy, plenty of winter spice and toffee, a little caramel and vanilla and a good mouthful of fruit - long, warming and fruity with a little oaken spice.Nikka from the Barrel is big-boned and bursting with character - not averse to a drop of water, either. Incredibly clean with a nice gentle burn.
