Description

Isle of Jura 10 YO

Light golden, yellow in colour, the nose is light clean and fresh, with a hint sea salt, almonds, and spice notes. On the palate it has light peaty notes, with fruit and spicy overtones with a sweet, peaty finish.

The distillery was first built overlooking the Sound of Jura in 1810. The distillery draws its water from Loch a’Bhaile-Mhargaidh’ (the market loch), a thousand feet (300m) above Craighouse, the island’s only village. The distillery’s machinery and buildings were owned by different individuals and a dispute between the two led to its closure for over fifty years in 1913. It was effectively redesigned and rebuilt before its reopening in the 1960s.

The Isle of Jura distillery is located so close to the island of Islay that they often participate in the annual ‘Feis Ile’ whisky festival of the Islay distilleries. But even though the Isle of Jura distillery is located just a ferry ride away from ‘the parish of peat’, its house style is completely different. They produced a few peated batches, but most of the regular expressions show a trademark oily profile – not unlike cod liver oil though no in terms of flavour of course.

Nikka from the Barrel

A real star, winning top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards in 2007 and 2010. Nikka From The Barrel has a medium-body with good balance with notes of cut flowers and fresh fruits, spice and a little oak.

Nikka From The Barrel is full-bodied and punchy, plenty of winter spice and toffee, a little caramel and vanilla and a good mouthful of fruit - long, warming and fruity with a little oaken spice.

Nikka from the Barrel is big-boned and bursting with character - not averse to a drop of water, either. Incredibly clean with a nice gentle burn.

Dalmore 18 YO 43%

Dalmore's stunning 18 year old Highland malt is as rich, fruity and spicy as you could ever want from a Dalmore. Kudos to Dalmore for creating another veritable chocolate orange of a whisky - a surefire hit, and great for the colder months. It is aged for 14 years in American oak, followed by three years in Matusalem sherry butts, before a final year in sherry butts. One for the sherry monsters amoungst you.

Glenfarclas 15 YO

An incredible dram from Glenfarclas, we can't say enough about it. It's a juicy, Christmas cake of a whisky, absolutely huge! This 15 year old matured in sherry wood, a superb malt which earned 95 points from Jim Murray. A lot of the whisky in this is clearly much older than 15 years, this is a really sherried dram and we love it.

Introduced to Glen Garioch's standard range in late 2010 this 12yo is a mix of ex-Bourbon and sherry casks and, like the other distillery bottlings since the revamp, has been bottled at a feisty 48%. A real charmer.
