Description
Kilchoman 100% Islay 2016 Release 50%
Kilchoman 100% Islay 2016 Release 50% – the citrus and lemon notes come through with soft peat smoke and a long smooth finish.
The Kilchoman 100% Islay 2016 Release 50% was first launched in 2010, a new edition of the 100% Islay has been released every year since.
All parts of the production process for the 100% Islay have taken place at the distillery, from barley to the bottle.
The barley is grown, malted, distilled, matured and bottled at Kilchoman making for a unique character.
Bottled at 50% ABV and peated to a lower level to their other releases, 100% Islay has a lighter, fresher feel to it.
Kilchoman was the first new distillery to be built on the remote island of Islay for well over a century.
The driving force behind the Kilchoman malt whisky distillery is Anthony Wills, he dreamt of building the smallest and most traditional distillery in Scotland, or at least on Islay.
Kilchoman would be one of only a handful of distilleries that may be able to claim that every step of the production process is carried out on site.
Barley (Optic & Chalice) is grown at Rockside Farm and malted on Kilchoman’s malt floor. Fresh spirit would be produced, matured and bottled on site.
Everything that is produced at Kilchoman was intended to be bottled as single malt whisky, unchill filtered and uncoloured.
On May 12th they will be releasing our 4th limited edition 100% Islay whisky. Having selected 40 first fill bourbon barrels, 32 five year old and 8 four year old for the limited edition bottling which will be available worldwide.
The 100% Islay whisky range is unique. It is produced from barley grown at the distillery, and every step of the production is completed onsite.
Kilchoman 100% Islay 2016 Release 50% is only lightly peated compared to the more heavily peated Kilchoman Machir Bay and Loch Gorm expressions
Machir Bay has been awarded Master of the under 12 year old Islay Single Malt category in The Spirits Business 2015 Scotch Whisky Masters.
Gold Medals were also awarded to Kilchoman Loch Gorm and 100% Islay 5th Edition completing a full house of medals for our current range.
Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder and Managing Director; ‘It is a fantastic achievement for Kilchoman to go up against such tough competition and come out on top. It is testament to all the daily hard work done by the distillery team’
