King’s Ginger

King’s Ginger,  although warming and heartening on a cold day as originally intended, it is a splendidly uplifting tonic to be appreciated on its own all year round as well as in any number of cocktails and long drinks.

This emphatically a ginger liqueur, which is rich and zesty and has been appreciated by bon viveurs, sporting gentlemen and high-spirited ladies ever since it was invented for King Edward VII.

The King’s Ginger was specifically formulated by Berry Bros. in 1903 for King Edward VII. Rich and zesty, the liqueur was created to stimulate and revivify.  http://thekingsginger.com/tasting-notes/

It is a high-strength liqueur created by the careful maceration of ginger root, enlivened by the judicious addition of citrus in the form of lemon oil for an unexpectedly fresh lift.

His Majesty during morning rides in his new horseless carriage – a Daimler. King Edward VII was a customer of Berry Bros, as was Edward’s physician, who was concerned about the monarch’s health, exposed as he was to the elements indulging one of his preferred pursuits, driving his ‘horseless carriage’.

Consequently in 1903 he commissioned Berry Bros. to formulate a liqueur which would warm and revivify His Majesty. Ginger was chosen as the key ingredient as it has been celebrated for centuries for its medicinal properties.

Moniack Mead Quick View

Moniack Mead

Rating:
Moniack Mead is a traditional honey mead which is produced at Moniack Castle by Highland Wineries, and is said to be one of the best meads being made in modern times. Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks known in history and, like all meads, Moniack Mead is produced through the process of fermenting honey. An interesting fact about mead is that it is traditionally drunk for the month after a wedding which is where the word “honeymoon” came from. Moniack Mead has a lovely, lingering and smooth flavour with elements of caramel and fermented honey. Our recommendation is that this mead is best served either chilled or if you prefer as a aperitif. 75cl bottle
