Description
Langlois Chateau Coteaux du Layon Prestige
Langlois Chateau Coteaux du Layon Prestige is superb, and has a delightful mix of aromas, including honeysuckle, peach, quince-jelly, acacia honey and orange blossom.
The mouth is gently sweet with lovely tropical fruit flavours, and is held in supreme balance by zesty citrus fruits and acidity.
Edouard Langlois was a winemaker, he married Jeanne Chateau and on 1st August 1912 and they founded the family company Maison Langlois-Chateau. During the 1970s the Bollinger family invested in Langlois-Chateau adding to the vineyard holding in Saumur, Saumur-Champigny and Sancerre.
Coteaux du Layon is the widest wine area of the Anjou region. Along the Layon river, the vines are protected by the hills in this lovely countryside.
Although wine makers produce a good semi-dry white wine, Coteaux du Layon is best known for its sweet white wine which is over 15 centuries old. The vignerons leave the grapes on their vines until over-ripe. This provides the wine with its concentrated taste and high sugar content.
Knowledge of vineyards and soils
There can be no great wine without quality grapes. Langlois-Chateau is very active in wine research and always favors natural methods and respect for the environment in its vineyards (73 hectares), notably through the use of integrated pest management.
It is by these means that Langlois-Chateau was one of the first wine makers to obtain the Terra Vitis label.
To this natural environment, the wine grower and maker has added his ancestral know-how, his passion and his enthusiasm. Langlois-Chateau has echoed and perpetuated these characteristics since 1885.
