Description
Leveret Hawkes Bay Reserve Chardonnay
Leveret Hawkes Bay Reserve Chardonnay has strong fruit flavours of guava, pineapple and rockmelon are complimented by vanilla, crème fresh and nutty oak. The palate is medium bodied, with great textural complexity and a lingering vanilla and honey comb finish.
The grapes specifically selected to make the Leveret Hawkes Bay Reserve Chardonnay come from two parcels of fruit originating from opposite sides of the Ngaruroro River of Hawkes Bay. Both these vineyards are stony river terrace sites whose soils have been deposited over many years by charges and floods of the river, creating soils that are mineral rich and incredibly free draining. Half the fruit was hand harvested and whole bunch pressed while the remaining was machine harvested. Following a brief settling of the juice both batches went straight to barrel for a natural fermentation and partial MLF, in order to enhance natural flavours of the grapes.
The grand rounded gables of The Wine Portfolio’s Cellar Door are a distinctive feature of the lush green pastures of Katikati, New Zealand. Since 1978 the estate has been a place where wine making is seen as an art, not just a business.
New Zealand’s temperate, maritime climate and rich, free-draining volcanic soils have brought new intense flavours and styles to the world wine market. With vineyards in prime locations such as Hawkes Bay and Marlborough, The Wine Portfolio combines the finest grapes with the best winemaking techniques, as well as passion from their dedicated winemakers. They have taken the boutique winery approach to winemaking by controlling the entire process – from grafting their own cuttings, developing their own vineyards and viticultural techniques, and investing in the best technology possible. Owning 503 planted hectares of vineyards, The Wine Portfolio has a secure supply of grapes that are grown specifically to match their wine styles.
