Lismore Chardonnay

Lismore Chardonnay has a complex, expressive bouquet with touches of smoke and walnut infusing the citrus fruit, a hint of toffee just underneath. The palate is lively and ripe on the entry with apricot, mandarin, orange zest and white peach. It is long in the mouth with a fine, walnut-inspired finish

Tucked into the foothills of a dramatic mountain range at the bottom of Africa is Lismore Estate Vineyards. Californian Samantha O'Keefe has found paradise and the perfect terroir. Her passion combined with vines planted at 300 meters, chilled by the winter snow and nourished by the African summer sun, produce classic cool climate wines which are rich, complex and lovingly hand crafted.

The Lismore Estate has a total of 12.5 ha planted with Chardonnay, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier.
Lismore's vineyards are planted on slopes at the base of the Riviersonderend Mountain Range. The
combination of elevation and climate make for an extended ripening period which is roughly 3-4 weeks later
than the more traditional wine growing areas in the Western Cap.
The grapes were whole bunched pressed, barrel fermented and aged for 11 months in older French barrels of
225-300l. The wine saw regular battonage, imparting texture and weight, but no malolactic fermentation which
leaves a fresh acidity.
Set in the Overberg region, with the Sonderend mountains as a backdrop, Greyton is all oak-lined lanes and itsy, bitsy country cottages. It is like you have wound back the clock and time travelled into an olde English parish, with white picket fences and farmers’ markets to boot.
Lismore Chardonnay 2013

“Grown mostly on shale soils, Chardonnay is the dominant variety at Lismore. Lightly oaked and featuring 50% malolactic fermentation for the first time, this is a significant step up on the 2011, with nutmeg spice, savoury complexity and a shimmering minerally core. Drink: 2015-20” 93 Points Tim Atkin
