Lovells Elgar Wine Promenades

Lovells Elgar Wine Promenades is a crisp, light wine with hints of tropical fruits which showcase their Phoenix and Orion grape varieties, typical of the English style. Enjoy on its own or with good company.

Lovells Elgar Wine Promenades: Nestled at the foot of the inspirational Malvern Hills, in the village of Welland, Lovells Vineyard is a family run English vineyard established in 2010.

In 2013 they undertook the management of the Elgar Wine brand that had originated down the road at Tiltridge Vineyard.

“We produce clean, crisp and fruity wines – typical of the English style – dry whites, subtle pinks and fizz. Our wines are available from our vineyard, specialist retail outlets and restaurants.

In 2008 our family moved to the village of Welland in Malvern where we made the bold decision to establish a vineyard.

Although the idea to start a vineyard was a moment of inspiration, the actual job of setting up a working vineyard took a lot of research and hard work.

In 2010 we planted our first 900 vines. In 2012 we planted a further 4,000. And in 2013 we undertook the management of Tiltridge Vineyard which was established 25 years ago and had developed the Elgar Brand.

Together with two more sites we planted this year with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, we manage four vineyard sites and ten different varieties of grapes across 15 acres.

Ours is a story of a hobby that became more serious: from an ambition to prove to friends and family that we could produce a decent English wine in Welland to a commercial operation potentially producing 25,000 bottles of wine a year. http://www.lovellsvineyard.co.uk/our-story/

We market our wines using the name of one of Britain’s greatest composers Sir Edward Elgar and his music. Sir Elgar was born in Worcestershire, and spent much of his life around the Malvern’s and is laid to rest at the nearby St Wulstans Church.

The Elgar Birthplace Museum is a great source of information and we are indebted for their help and co-operation”.

Promenades Dry White 2014 (11.5%vol) PDO
A crisp, light wine with hints of tropical fruits and gooseberry. A blend of Huxelrebe, Phoenix and Madeleine Angevine. Awarded Bronze in the 2015 English & Welsh Wine of the Year Competition.

Aromo Viognier Quick View

Aromo Viognier 2018

Full bodied white with a rich background of savoury notes, a very aromatic peach and mayblossom fruit character, but without any sweetness. No oak and fresh fruit makes this wine a real winner. The Aromo wines have a great charm and appeal and this is no exception.

Domaine des Ballandors Quincy Quick View

Domaine des Ballandors Quincy 2018

This is the village adjacent to Sancerre and Pouilly Fume where wines of similar style are made but because of Quincy’s ‘lesser’ name at much reduced cost. This wine is a testament to that; the flavours and aromas achieved in this wine are equivalent to any top flight Sancerre, with ‘grippy’ edgy grapefruit notes and steely crisp fruit. When Anton Beukes, winemaker at the Môreson Winery in South Africa, tasted this wine at supper, he said; ‘This is the wine I would love to make’ - Anton makes some very serious wines, so what an accolade! Winner of Best French White Wine at ‘France under one roof’ London 2005.

Straw yellow in colour with silvery gold tints. The nose is very complex, with notes of exotic fruits (lychee, mango) and subtle aromas of white pepper. The mouth is full and very long. This is a wine with good freshness from lingering acidity balanced with a touch of residual sugar on the finish.

Attractively aromatic, rich dry Sauvignon showing the fruit character of fully ripe grapes. Exotic fruits in abundance on the nose and just a hint of mint. On the palate its fresh and tangy and the finish is fruity and moreish. The obvious accompaniment to asparagus with hollandaise but should be tried with goats cheese and works well with tuna dishes.

Jean-Claude Bachelet Puligny Montrachet Les Aubues 2017

This is really classy in 2010, the first year with the name of the lieu-dit on the label. A beautiful floral nose, dancing fruit, charming and balanced, it possesses an excellent racy acidity and is altogether a great success. From 50-year-old vines in Les Aubues, an enclave within better known Enceigneres, this is very attractive with quite a full nose and an excellent finish.
