Description

Macallan Speymalt 2005

The Macallan Speymalt 2005 single malt was distilled in 2005, and matured in sherry casks until 2019. Then bottled by Gordan & MacPhail.

Nose: Waxy peels, with caramel digestives and ripe banana.

Palate: Oily orange peel, with smooth praline, pears and chocolate sauce.

Finish: Black pepper is tempered by creamy milk chocolate.

Producer

The first licensed distillation at Macallan is said to have taken place in the earliest days of legalised production, in 1824.

The distillery changed hands several times throughout the 19th century and in 1894 was bought by Elgin merchant, Roderick Kemp (who also owned Talisker on Skye).

Due to demand for Macallan the distillery has been modernised and extended over the years. In the 1950’s the output was trebled and further increased in the 1960’s.

Easter Elchies House, built in 1700, lies at the heart of The Macallan estate

Built in 1700 Easter Elchies House is a fine example of a Highland manor house.

The Macallan estate lies in an area of great natural beauty; its scale and diversity is unique among distilleries and is managed in harmony with the beautiful landscape.

The estate covers 390 acres (158 hectares), of which some 90 acres are sown in the spring with our own exclusive Minstrel barley variety to make The Macallan.

Sheep and highland cattle are at home here and woodland, beetle banks and areas of unharvested crop and unmown grassland attract biodiversity.

The river Spey, one of Scotland’s most famous salmon rivers, borders the estate to the south and south-east.

Dalmore 18 YO 43%

Dalmore's stunning 18 year old Highland malt is as rich, fruity and spicy as you could ever want from a Dalmore. Kudos to Dalmore for creating another veritable chocolate orange of a whisky - a surefire hit, and great for the colder months. It is aged for 14 years in American oak, followed by three years in Matusalem sherry butts, before a final year in sherry butts. One for the sherry monsters amoungst you.

Glenfarclas 15 YO

An incredible dram from Glenfarclas, we can't say enough about it. It's a juicy, Christmas cake of a whisky, absolutely huge! This 15 year old matured in sherry wood, a superb malt which earned 95 points from Jim Murray. A lot of the whisky in this is clearly much older than 15 years, this is a really sherried dram and we love it.
