Mandarine Napoléon is an exquisite, well-balanced blend of mandarins and refined 10-year-old aged cognac. Dating back to the early 1800s, and its roots stemming from the hands of Napoléon Bonaparte, the liqueur’s history is as rich as its distinctive flavor. The drink was custom made for Napoléon, after the emperor came across chemist Antoine-François de Fourcroy, known for his extraordinary skill of distilling. It was not until 1892, after the two had died, that the liqueur was introduced to the public.
The nose is fruity with pleasant aromas of juniper, vanilla and some hints of malt and bread. Fruity, juniper and pleasantly light on the palate.
The Mash is made up of equal parts Rye, Corn and Malted Barley. After three distillations the resulting spirit is partially redistilled with juniper, Licorice and aniseed. This results in an unaged, fruity and fresh
Genever or Dutch style sweet gin is a full bodied, malt-based spirit that was introduced to the Netherlands in the 16th century. It is a decidedly different taste then the more familiar dry gins from England. The unique flavours and aromas of Zuidam Genever come from the finest, most natural imported botanicals, spices & herbs from around the world.
The nose is lemon, lime, juniper, and very classic in character. Just a tinge of sweetness with a touch of creamy lemon as well. Juniper on the tip of the tongue, followed by lemon, coriander and angelica. Just a bit of spice, with citrus blossoming in the middle. The finish hints at anise, angelica, juniper and citrus rind. Tart and direct, with a very dry palate cleansing finish.
A German Brandy blended from 25 different wine distillations, then aged for up to 3 years in limousin oak casks. With a deep golden colour, cognac character but fruitier. Grape and oak aroma. Clean, crisp with a rather astringent flavour.
This gin is complicated. The taste is the true taste of junipers highlighted by the citrus and the sweetness of the apples, elderflowers and hops. It has a beautiful and textured mouth feel due to the luscious organic apples and the naturally pure water taken straight from the aquifer that runs underneath their orchards. Try it with a slice of apple rather than lemon.
