Description
Morande Carmenere Malbec
Morande Carmenere Malbec on the nose has aromas of spices, black fruits, cedar and a bit of clove. The palate feels round, soft, and complex. The fruit is well-balanced with its tannins, and it shows a fresh juiciness.
Food pairing: red meats in general, pasta with ragôut, charcuterie, Mature cheeses, as well as with spicy foods, such as curries
This Malbec comes from very old vines. It offers aromas of violets and great softness on the palate, while Carmenère delivers spicy notes that add a distinctive touch on the nose. Both varieties were introduced from France during the 19th century.
Vineyards
During the last 20 years, Camenère and Malbec have become emblematic varieties for South American wines. With different characteristics, they both complement each other in terms of structure and flavour.
Malbec completes this wine, highlighting the fruitiness and mouthfeel of our Carmenère, whose vines were planted on the slopes of our Melozal estate more than 20 years ago. Located close to the Loncomilla river, this zone benefits from a warm and dry climate, as well as from the minerality of the granitic soils of Maule’s Secano Interior (Interior Dryland).
The Malbec vineyard, on the other hand, established in the La Constancia estate, was planted more than 50 years ago on soils of clayey-alluvial basis. Trellised to the vertical shoot position, both varieties complement each other to perfection in a sort of South American – South Cone blend.
Producer
“When Pablo Morandé founded Viña Morandé in 1996, he did it with a great vision for the future and with the same audacity that drove him, years earlier, to be the first person to plant vines in the Casablanca Valley.
Adopting this pioneering view as our own, our winery created soon after a wine range named “Aventuras” (Adventures). Our purpose was to highlight the unknown diversity of Chilean terroirs and to draw attention to the old vines planted in the vineyards of the Secano Interior (Interior Dryland) of the Maule and Itata regions.
But we also aimed at using less renowned varieties that have been traditionally grown there. It may be worth remembering that, since the very beginning of Viña Morandé, the old vineyards grown in the Secano have had a special meaning for our winery. On one hand, Maule, and particularly the area of Cauquenes, is the place of birth of our founder.
And on the other, our winery has developed an important viticultural work throughout the years in its different terroirs, crafting wines that have been present since the first day in our portfolio.” – HOME – Morandé English (morande.cl)
