Morande Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon

Morande Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of blackcurrants, plums and cherries with notes of fresh tobacco, cinnamon and roasted coffee beans. The palate has great body, with abundant velvety tannins, great structure which is rounded, persistent and complex. Great ageing potential.

Vineyards

The fruit comes from selected plots in the San Bernardo Vineyard in the Maipo Valley, which is known for its great quality red wines. The loamy-clay soils of alluvial origin also have gravel in the third layer of profile. The fresh, dry climate provides an ideal terroir for producing structured, elegant red wines with long persistence.

Winemaking

Harvest takes place manually in 10 kilo crates and the clusters/berries are hand selected in the winery. Prior to fermentation, the must is macerated at low temperatures for 3 days. The Bordeaux-style vinification is handled with delicacy to achieve good extraction of the fine tannins. The total maceration period is from 32-35 days, with malolactic fermentation in 2000 and 4000 litres French foudres for 18 months.

Producer

"When Pablo Morandé founded Viña Morandé in 1996, he did it with a great vision for the future and with the same audacity that drove him, years earlier, to be the first person to plant vines in the Casablanca Valley.

Adopting this pioneering view as our own, our winery created soon after a wine range named “Aventuras” (Adventures). Our purpose was to highlight the unknown diversity of Chilean terroirs and to draw attention to the old vines planted in the vineyards of the Secano Interior (Interior Dryland) of the Maule and Itata regions.

But we also aimed at using less renowned varieties that have been traditionally grown there. It may be worth remembering that, since the very beginning of Viña Morandé, the old vineyards grown in the Secano have had a special meaning for our winery. On one hand, Maule, and particularly the area of Cauquenes, is the place of birth of our founder.

And on the other, our winery has developed an important viticultural work throughout the years in its different terroirs, crafting wines that have been present since the first day in our portfolio." - HOME - Morandé English (morande.cl)
