Description

Old Pulteney 12 YO 40%

Deep amber in colour, medium to high intensity and complexity. Dry with a hint of sea air. Medium bodied and smooth with a clean finish. Faintly salty with a slight sherry note.

The Old Pulteney distillery was founded in 1826 by James Hendersonld and it lies on the Southern side of Wick, it is Scotland’s most Northerly mainland distillery. The town experienced a ‘boom’ in the 19th century thanks to the herring industry. The bay was filled with hundreds of fishing boats and at a certain point the local herring economy became so overheated that the authorities had to declare an alcohol prohibition to prevent things from running out of control. Ironically, Pulteney was still producing its whisky throughout the period of enforced abstinence.

The Henderson family  remained in control until 1920 when Old Pulteney was sold and in 1930 the distillery was closed and  remained inactive for 2 decades until 1951 when it was resurrected by a lawyer from Banff in Speyside.

The whisky was dubbed the ‘Manzilla of the North’ due to the salty character that has been picked up during the maturation.

Glenfarclas 15 YO

An incredible dram from Glenfarclas, we can't say enough about it. It's a juicy, Christmas cake of a whisky, absolutely huge! This 15 year old matured in sherry wood, a superb malt which earned 95 points from Jim Murray. A lot of the whisky in this is clearly much older than 15 years, this is a really sherried dram and we love it.

Woodford Reserve Boubon 43%

Woodford Reserve is a sour mash straight bourbon made at Kentucky's oldest distillery. It is the only bourbon which is triple distilled in copper pot stills, the time-honoured method of production. It is then aged in new charred American oak barrels. Double Gold Medals at the World Spirits Competition in 2000, 2001 and 2005 - the only bourbon ever to achieve this.

Clynelish 14 YO

You can almost taste the coastal flora in Clynelish Single Malt Scotch Whisky, with its crisp, medium- bodied, mustard-fresh style. Although you won’t find Islay’s powerful smokiness here, there is just a trace of it lingering. It’s said Clynelish whisky is closer to an Island style than other mainland malts, with a complex and fragrant nose and an agreeable long finish that leaves a lingering fresh-fruity flavour. Not a heavyweight, it is yet deliciously drinkable, and perfect as an aperitif.

It is aged for 14 years in American oak, followed by three years in Matusalem sherry butts, before a final year in sherry butts. One for the sherry monsters amoungst you.
