Penrhos Rhubarb Gin

The second born and a match made in heaven (well Herefordshire actually). A gorgeous pink and tangy gin made with 250ml of pure Raspberry Red Rhubarb juice blended with our own Penrhos Dry to create a memorable gin.

A tart burst of fresh rhubarb fills the palette before being replaced with soft citrus and herbal notes that complement the smoothness of our Penrhos Dry.

Serving suggestion: Take a stem balloon glass and add plenty of ice. Gently pour one part Penrhos Rhubarb and three parts Fever Tree Indian Tonic Water or Ginger Ale. During the summer, garnish with a slice of stem rhubarb and in the winter add a spray of rosemary.

“Some years ago a chance conversation led us to pool our resources and knowledge together to grow fruit in the wonderful fields of Herefordshire.

With cherry and apple orchards thriving and blueberries and strawberries planted we decided to put our name to a product that is farm-made, hand created and rich in provenance.

For the longest time, we have been gin lovers, the perfect way to unwind after a long day in the fields and one day we just asked ourselves… why not? As lifelong friends, we have always plotted and planned and we realised we had the perfect answer. Our wives Sally and Kate soon realised this was more than a mid-life crisis and joined the team.

For two years we researched and tested countless recipes on our one litre Still. We instantly became very popular as we were never short of volunteers to taste our gin! With our recipes complete we purchased a 150-litre copper Still and converted our 250-year-old former cow shed into the distillery. Penrhos Spirits was born and so the adventure begins.” – Penrhos Distillery

Moniack Mead

Rating:
Moniack Mead is a traditional honey mead which is produced at Moniack Castle by Highland Wineries, and is said to be one of the best meads being made in modern times. Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks known in history and, like all meads, Moniack Mead is produced through the process of fermenting honey. An interesting fact about mead is that it is traditionally drunk for the month after a wedding which is where the word “honeymoon” came from. Moniack Mead has a lovely, lingering and smooth flavour with elements of caramel and fermented honey. Our recommendation is that this mead is best served either chilled or if you prefer as a aperitif. 75cl bottle

Fifty Pounds Gin 43.5%

The nose is lemon, lime, juniper, and very classic in character. Just a tinge of sweetness with a touch of creamy lemon as well. Juniper on the tip of the tongue, followed by lemon, coriander and angelica. Just a bit of spice, with citrus blossoming in the middle. The finish hints at anise, angelica, juniper and citrus rind. Tart and direct, with a very dry palate cleansing finish.
