Ponte Pietra Pinot Grigio Rosato

Ponte Pietra Pinot Grigio Rosato, is a very pale pink in colour with a lovely perfumed nose with aromas of ripe pear and freshly baked breadcrust.

Ponte Pietra Pinot Grigio Rosato is full-bodied but still fresh on the palate with a crisp, apple-pear finish.

These elegantly presented wines are made by Matt Thomson at Cantina di Monteforte from fruit which is declassified from Soave Classico status and offer superb quality at this price.

Verona’s ‘Ponte Pietra’ (stone bridge) dates back to Roman times, although vines have been planted on the hills outside of Verona for much longer than this bridge has spanned the Adige River.

The fruit for this wine is grown on several hillside vineyards outside Verona where growers have reduced their crop quite significantly

Winter in the Veneto was characterised by initially above average temperatures that fell sharply below zero from February.

Flowering began early thanks to the spring rains that reduced the water deficit. In summer, particularly in July and August, the temperatures were higher than the norm and were accompanied by hot winds from Africa.

Thanks to these warm, dry conditions the health of grapes at harvest was excellent and the flavour development was spot on.

The Cantina di Monteforte d'Alpone was constituted in March of 1952 like a society between 80 winegrowers of the zone, with the common love for the land and the grapevine, in a sunny area of hills, dedicated to preserve the quality of wine.

Actually, the Cantina di Monteforte S.c.a. amount to 600 members with 1300 hectares of vineyard (the 80 % is D.O.C.).The Cantina di Monteforte is set around the entrance of Val d' Alpone zone, famous in the world for the Bolca's fossils and Soave Classico.

The lands by which come from the grapes are mainly hill and of volcanic origin and give to the wines an unmistakable taste. (http://www.cantinadimonteforte.it/eng/azienda.php )

The distinctions in the several national and international contests and the various appreciations of the tasters about the wines of Cantina di Monteforte d' Alpone, encourage the managers to go on with a constant improvement through the recover of old abandoned but qualifier vineyards like the Trebbiano di Soave, and also through breeding systems of new vineyards finalize to the maximum qualitative result.
