Red Claw Pinot Noir

Currants and rosemary, freeze dried strawberries, some petally notes and ripe cherries. And the palate has notes of dried oranges studded with cloves, spice and cranberries. It isn't often that you get wines that are such a labour of love for such an affordable price.

The grapes are handpicked and each parcel is dealt with separately ensuring that you get the best possible flavour. Vivacious, luscious and tempting, this glides out of the glass and calls you in with its siren song.

Producer

When you want to drink peerless Aussie pinot, you look to Tom Carson. His love of this grape and his tirelessly analytical mind has earned him more accolades and awards – when he won the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy (Oz’s top wine prize) in 2013, he was the first person ever to do so with pinot – than he knows what to do with.

But more than that: it has helped him to redefine the Aussie approach to winemaking - with a Burgundian focus on vineyard site and soil, as manifest with his work at Yabby Lake in Mornington - and terroir taking precedence over cellar-based chicanery.

Now, having achieved pretty much everything there is to achieve in wine, Tom has launched his own special project, Distant Noises – which is his attempt to do that rare thing of making high-quality wine that is accessible to many.

Review

“Hand picked and sorted, open-fermented with 25% whole bunches, matured in used French puncheons. Bright crimson-purple; the fragrant bouquet weaves a tapestry of red berry blossom with a darker note picked up on the complex palate and its long finish.”
