Redbreast 12 YO

Redbreast 12 YO is full of aroma and flavour and benefits from a strong contribution from distillates which have matured in Oloroso sherry casks, giving it its trademark Christmas cake character.

One of the most decorated Irish whiskeys, Redbreast 12 YO is the largest selling Single Pot Still Irish whiskey in the world and is regarded as the definitive expression of traditional Pot Still whiskey.

Redbreast is one of the few single pot still whiskey brands produced today and is the only one with an age statement. It is produced at the New Midleton Distillery, Midelton, County Cork by Irish Distillers.

Redbreast is a brand of single pot still type Irish Whiskey.

There are currently four expressions available; Redbreast 12 year, Redbreast 12 Cask Strength, Redbreast 15 and the newest addition, Redbreast 21.

Redbreast comes in a green bottle, and the 12-year-old is 40.0% ABV (80 proof) – whereas the 15-year-old is at 46% ABV and is non-chill filtered.

It is produced at the New Midleton Distillery by Irish Distillers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard.

In 2010, the Redbreast 12-year variation was proclaimed Irish Whiskey of the Year by whiskey writer, Jim Murray, and was also nominated as #1 buy in John Hansell’s Buyer’s Guide, which gave it a rating score of 96 points.

“Delicious, soothing, contemplative. A great whiskey. For lovers of the style, Redbreast approaches perfection”.
Michael Jackson, Whisky – The Definitive World Guide

Redbreast is the secret restaurant tucked away in the back of the strip mall that only a handful of people know about.

“The atmosphere is great and the food divine, but no one is sure that they should tell other people about it because either it’ll become too crowded (and thus will be impossible to get a table) or the increased production by the staff in the back will affect the overall quality of the place”.
Kate Hopkins, 99 Drams Of Whiskey

Dalmore 18 YO 43%

Dalmore's stunning 18 year old Highland malt is as rich, fruity and spicy as you could ever want from a Dalmore. Kudos to Dalmore for creating another veritable chocolate orange of a whisky - a surefire hit, and great for the colder months. It is aged for 14 years in American oak, followed by three years in Matusalem sherry butts, before a final year in sherry butts. One for the sherry monsters amoungst you.

Glen Garioch 12 YO 48%

Introduced to Glen Garioch's standard range in late 2010 this 12yo is a mix of ex-Bourbon and sherry casks and, like the other distillery bottlings since the revamp, has been bottled at a feisty 48%. A real charmer.

Knockando 12 YO 43%

There is a very supple, chewy peat lying quietly in the background. The palate is quite full with notes of heather roots and damp earth, notes of honeyed sweetness with Jamaica ginger cake, a touch of rum with malty peat. The finish is quite long with winter spice and crystallized stem ginger with cereal notes

Woodford Reserve Boubon 43%

Woodford Reserve is a sour mash straight bourbon made at Kentucky's oldest distillery. It is the only bourbon which is triple distilled in copper pot stills, the time-honoured method of production. It is then aged in new charred American oak barrels. Double Gold Medals at the World Spirits Competition in 2000, 2001 and 2005 - the only bourbon ever to achieve this.

Flaky oakiness with a complex toastiness to the barley suggesting the lightest hint of smoke. Amazingly long, drying from the initial sweetness but with flaked almonds amid the oakier notes. A great single malt: beautifully uncompromising from the first sniff to the last gulp.

Benriach Curiositas 10 Year Old 40%

Unusually for a speyside this is quite heavily peated in a style more common over 100 years ago. An explosion of aromatic peat reek, with fragrant hints of honey, fruit and mellow oak. On the palate an avalanche of peat, followed by an extravagant and complex mix of fruit, heather, nuts, oak wood and spices.
