San Lorenzo Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Di Gino

San Lorenzo Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Di Gino is complex, lively and nutty with pear and apple fruit. Textured, rich but expressive with a lovely mineral finish – biodynamic and organic

San Lorenzo Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Di Gino is a hidden gem, named after the father of  the winemaker, is easy to drink, simple and balanced, low yielding and complex.

Natalino Crognaletti runs this long-established family business and looks after some 35 hectares of vines, both owned and rented, in the communes of Montecarotto, Ostra, Ostra Vetere and Corinaldo.

Vineyards are worked biodynamically and organically, and winemaking is minimal intervention with lots of time on yeast lees for the whites.

The San Lorenzo Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Di Gino is a fantastic wine, totally respecting its sense of place and tradition.

The business has been passed down from father to son for several generations. Grandfather, Enrico Crognaletti, besides being an excellent barrel maker and making good Verdicchio, also used to pick the trees and build the barrels that were used to vinify his Verdicchio.

Today his work helps Natalino, his nephew, to understand how and where this wood should be utilized and mainly how to appreciate this experience in the future.

“From Ancona in Italy’s Marche, come these remarkable wines. Natalino Crognaletti runs this long-established family business and looks after some 35 hectares of vines, both owned and rented, in the communes of Montecarotto, Ostra, Ostra Vetere and Corinaldo.

Verdicchio is a white-wine grape variety that has been cultivated for hundreds of years in the Marche region of central Italy.

It is a versatile variety, used both for light, easy-drinking table wines, and for more complex, ageworthy examples.

It is commonly lauded by critics as being one of Italy’s best white-wine grape varieties, and is found in vineyards across the country.

Domaine des Brosses has used a machine harvester to collect the grapes since 1989. This is so that the Sauvignon Blanc is brought to the winery in the coolness of night-time, thus retaining the classic citrus and gooseberry aromas and flavours of Sancerre. Pale yellow in colour. The nose is fresh and full of hay, citrus and mineral notes. The palate is medium in body with crisp lemon acidity and an appealing creamy complexity alongside the ripe peach, elderflower and mineral flavours which last well on the long finish.
