Description
San Polo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
The San Polo Brunello di Montalcino has a distinctive aroma of woodland undergrowth with a light touch of vanilla & preserved fruit with subtle notes of coffee. As a result, this wine is full bodied and warming, with a smooth texture and well balanced tannins.
The elegance and harmonious personality of this wine enables it to pair really well with cuisine such as red meats and game or mushrooms/truffles. Also it is ideal with matured cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Tuscan pecorino.
Due to the unique terroir at San Polo, the ability to produce a Brunello with a capacity for lengthy ageing is very encouraging.
San Polo is situated in Podernovi, on the southern slope of Montalcino.
The valley is called Sant’ Antimo and there too, almost at touching distance, stands Mount Amiata. The locals call this area a ‘Mezzopane’, meaning that to admire the beautiful view is to ‘take one’s fill’, like food for the soul.
The windows, knolls and vantage points of the Estate’s two farmhouses look out over the breath-taking Tuscan landscape of the Old Masters. And finally, San Polo’s modern and innovative wine-making cellar is so cutting-edge as to have become synonymous with the Company itself.
An unusually warm winter encouraged early budding with a consequent high risk of frost damage.
During spring, rain and relatively high temperatures seemed to provide ideal conditions for the proliferation of the spores that cause downy mildew.
Rainfall continued until the beginning of September. The lack of light slowed the ripening process, cancelling out, day on day, the phenological properties accumulated during the month of May.
Excellent exposure and constant breezes enabled the grapes to reach harvest time in good health and with ideal ripeness, giving rise to wines with distinct personality and elegance.
