Description

Each vintage, we harvest multiple diverse lots of Zinfandel that span the entire Sonoma County Zinfandel landscape. Each of these lots is produced under the careful eye of our winemaker, Andy Robinson. The best of these lots are selected to make Sonoma Zinfandel. A small amount of Petite Sirah is added to honor century old traditions and to provide color and structure. The result is a wine that offers tantalizing raspberry, blueberry, classic briary and spicy flavors with a balance of components for which Seghesio wines are known.

2015 was equal measures of good and bad weather. Drought early in the season threatened grape set and winegrowers were fearful there wouldn’t be enough water to support the vegetative cycle. But rains in February and April helped to counter this coupled with warm sunny weather during late summer and early autumn. Harvest began early in August and despite lower yields showed great aromatic and flavour potential.

While Seghesio first formally adopted sustainable farming in 2003, the grandparents instilled in the current generation a deep respect for the land that has provided both homes and a way of life for five generations of their family. They farm utilizing the greenest inputs possible to sustainably foster the long-term health of our vineyards while maintaining the highest quality hand-farmed fruit. In the winery, new processes aimed at the conservation of resources – primarily energy and water usage – have been adopted.

"In 1934, the year after Prohibition was repealed, patriarch Edoardo Seghesio died, leaving Angela and their children to rebuild without him. They had their original 1895 vineyard at Home Ranch, but to increase production, Angela met with growers, sampling grapes and telling them exactly when to pick. This way, she identified the ranches with the best soils and, when they became available, bought them: Cloverdale in 1936, River Ranch in 1942, Chen's Vineyard in 1957, Lone Oak in 1960 and Keyhole in 1962. Under the guidance of Ted Seghesio, Montafi Ranch was purchased in 2014.

No land was selected by accident. Each site was carefully chosen for its potential to grow world-class grapes. From these vineyards, as well as a select few owned and farmed by independent growers equally committed to excellence, we produce the highest quality wines to this day." - https://www.seghesio.com/
