Seresin Leah Pinot Noir

Seresin Leah Pinot Noir is a blend from all three of their vineyard sites, Leah is named after Michael Seresin’s daughter. The fruit is handpicked and completely destemmed before being fermented with wild yeast. A long post-ferment maceration period gives this wine its savoury elegance and structure. Exhibits bright, fragrant berry-fruit aromas, interlaced with spice and herbal notes. The wine is focused and concentrated, with a succulent fruit core, framed by fine-grained tannins and a mouth-watering acidity. An elegant and understated style with immediate appeal, but structure to last.

Michael Seresin is one of those rare people who has managed to make a name for himself in two quite distinct fields: filmmaking and wine.

His first career was as a cinematographer: born in Wellington, at the foot of New Zealand’s north Island, he left New Zealand in 1966 to forge a successful career in the movies working at first in London and Rome as a freelance camera assistant. He graduated to lighting camera status, which he continues to this day. He’s famous for the nine films he’s made with British director Allan Parker, as well as working with Alfonso Cuaron on the third Harry Potter film, The Prisoner of Azkabhan and Gravity.

He found Italy a real culture shock. ‘How people lived was opposite to how I’d lived in New Zealand’, he recalls. He was captured by the culture of food and wine he experienced there and when he decided to turn his hand to making wine, his first thought was to do it in Italy, before settling on his home country as the destination.

He started the Seresin wine estate in 1992 in Marlborough and quite early on he decided he wanted to go against the grain and farm organically. They are now fully biodynamic using animal compost to enrich the soil and only spraying the vines with natural teas to keep them healthy.

They let the natural yeasts in the vineyard ferment the wine which takes more time but gives the wines a great depth of flavour.
