Silent Pool Gin

Silent Pool Gin is made with 24 botanicals carefully chosen for their uniqueness. All the botanicals work together in unison to afford a romantic, complex flavour. Fresh floral and clarifying citrus notes are grounded by earthy and spicy cassia bark and cubeb. The smooth finish is achieved with the help of local honey. Refreshingly individual, intricately realised gin in 43% ABV. Recommended serve is with a generous handful of ice, a dash of tonic, and a twist of orange peel to garnish.

Drawn by a common passion for craft distilling, a group of friends came together to create a new kind of distillery, producing handcrafted, artisan spirits with uncompromising quality. In an extraordinary location on the Duke of Northumberland’s Albury Estate, a group of dilapidated farm buildings on the banks of the legendary Silent Pool has been transformed to become the home of the Silent Pool Distillers.

In keeping with the original vision for a sustainable business, a vintage wood-fired steam boiler was restored to power the hand-built copper still, created for Silent Pool Distillers by the Arnold Holstein Company in the Lake Constance area of Germany.

The distillery was completed with the arrival of the bespoke stainless steel tanking, sourced from the Vipara Valley in Slovenia, tanking designed to hold both the spirit and the crystal clear water pumped directly from the Silent Pool itself.

After their original inspiration, a whole lot of research had to go into extracting exactly the right combination of flavours from their romantic botanicals. They broke each ingredient down to the molecular level, identified each ingredient’s flavour profile, and customised their method of making gin with the sole aim of obtaining exactly the right fragrances and flavours in Silent Pool Gin.

Their unique four-stage process allows them to use flavours that previously distillers could only dream of being able to use, and precisely control the quality and flavour of their gins. A portion of their botanicals, including Bosnian juniper berries, liquorice root, cassia bark, orris, and bergamot are bruised and macerated in base spirit before being transferred to the still. These give depth and mouthfeel, the rich and heavier flavours.

The final touches are included in the gin basket infusion, which hangs in the neck of their Holstein still. Fresh citrus peel, dried pears, Macedonian juniper and Bulgarian angelica, to name but a few, balance the final spirit, integrating and enlivening the other botanicals to create the unique harmony found in Silent Pool Gin.
