Sixteen Ridges Pinot Noir Early Red

Sixteen Ridges Pinot Noir Early Red is round and fruity with hints of spice this light bodied red has cherry, raspberry and earthy notes to the aroma and the palate, with subtle soft oak finish.

We suggest pairing Sixteen Ridges Pinot Noir Early Red  with crispy roast duck, slow roast lamb or a rich  mushroom dish.

Sixteen Ridges is a 6 acre vineyard situated on a sheltered hillside north of Worcester with views of the Severn River Valley. The Pinot Noir vines have been managed by winemaker Simon Day since planting in 2007. From the 2014 vintage some of the grapes used also come from a vineyard on the outskirts of Ledbury at Redbank, Herefordshire.

Simon began his career 20 years ago at the Three Choirs Vineyard, Gloucestershire where his father was amongst the first English commercial winemaker growers.

He further developed his skills at English producers Denbies and Lamberhurst and in Ausralia with Brown Brothers.

He now consults for vineyards the length and breadth of England. He believes good wine is made in the vineyard with minimal intervention in the winery.

Simon has made the Sixteen Ridges range purely from Pinot Noir showing his creativity as a winemaker. Plans for the future include the further planting and expansion of a new vineyard and a state of the art winery at Redbank, Ledbury.

The fashionable grape Pinot Noir is capable of producing divinely scented, gorgeously fruity expressions of place but is one of the more difficult to grow as it is thin skinned and vulnerable to disease.

Also Pinot Noir is sensitive to the size of crop it is expected to produce, over crop it and the resulting wine will lack all character and flavour.

It is not suitable for very warm regions either where there would be no time to develop interesting flavours before acid levels plummet and the grapes would over ripen.

In relatively cool climate regions and in the hands of a skilled winemaker no other grape expresses the idea of terroir or grape-growing environment in it’s taste and character.

It is responsible for the great reds of Burgundy and produces some of the finest wines from the cooler grape growing regions in the rest of the world. Sixteen Ridges Wine

It is also a major grape in the production of Champagne where it gives the wines backbone and body.
