Description
Speyburn 10 YO
Speyburn 10 YO nose is quite citrusy and zesty with sugared orange peels and herbal notes, wood shavings and pine oil, rubbed spearmint leaves and winter spice.
Speyburn 10 YO has notes of malted barley and cereal sweetness, the palate is of medium-body and quite smooth – one of the best value malts around.
A gold medal winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Speyburn was designed by the famous Elgin architect Charles Doig and built in 1897.
As this was Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee, the owners wanted to be in production before the year was over, so they could sell a commemorative edition in future years. http://www.speyburn.com/crafting-speyburn/our-heritage/
In late December of that year they succeeded, but production began before the still house had doors and windows.
Speyburn Distillery was the first malt distillery to use a drum-malting system, instead of a traditional floor malting’s.
The drum malting’s operated until 1968, when United Distillers centralised malted barley production. In 1992 Inver House Distillers purchased the distillery.
Our founder John Hopkins knew a thing or two about instinct. He carved his own path through life, trusting his intuition every step of the way.
Like Hopkins, we believe that following your instincts leads to somewhere great. You only have to read about our heritage to see why.
While hunting for the perfect spot for his distillery, Hopkins discovered the Granty Burn – an untouched stream hidden in a secluded Speyside valley.
He knew that the exceptionally pure water of this burn would produce a remarkable whisky with a naturally refreshing character.
Hopkins trusted his intuition and built the Speyburn distillery right there in the glen, using authentic river stones from the bed of the fast-flowing River Spey itself.
Over 100 years after its founding, Speyburn remains the only distillery to use the pure, crystal-clear water of the Granty Burn.
